  6. 2-year college Example: Virginia Western Community College (or other school in the Virginia Community College System) Students can earn: Certificates for employment An Associates degree to transfer to a 4-year college or enter the workforce Students can apply for CCAP (Community College Access Program) October 1 February 1 Not guaranteed; based on financial need

Examples: University of Virginia, Radford University, Roanoke College, Virginia Tech, and many other in-state and out-of-state colleges Student can earn a Bachelor s degree to enter the workforce or continue their education. Some colleges require the SAT or ACT standardized tests as part of the application process. Please check your colleges for more info. Admissions requirements search 4-year college

  8. College: How to Apply Understand Admission options Application requirements Student should review Admissions requirements for each college carefully and develop a plan early in the fall. Create a checklist unique to each college so that you don t miss details and deadlines. Put important dates in your cell phone calendar. Letters of Recommendation Give 2 weeks notice and email a resume to your recommender (teachers, Counselor, etc) include deadline date Class Rank and GPA updates at the end of each year Application Fee Waivers You could qualify if you attend the College Fair or college campus visits, or if you qualify for Free and Reduced lunch. See here. Transcripts You will need to request an official copy of your transcript at time of application, and again at the end of the year to the college you plan to attend.

Requesting Transcripts Fill out & turn in the College Application checklist (green sheet) Login to your Parchment account Use the account created with your registration code provided by Counselors You can request transcripts at any point during the application process. We will only process them when we have a College Application Checklist on file. We will not process requests for unofficial self-view transcripts due to FERPA. If you need an unofficial copy of your Transcript, please use the copy we mailed home in September. If Dual Enrolled, send VWCC transcript (using Parchment)

Employment Job Shadowing/Internship/Apprenticeship Volunteering Develop a strong resume, have teachers review it Certifications BCAT: NOCTI, A++ Applications typically online; fill out professionally Interviewing Skills Virginia Employment Commission Employment Agencies (Ex: Elwood Staffing, Express Employment, Randstad Staffing) Great way to try out careers without a lot of commitment Many companies do not have an HR department, so they rely on staffing agencies to help fill positions on a temporary, seasonal, or permanent basis.

  15. Diploma Seals Governor s Seal: Advanced Studies Diploma 3.0 GPA 9 transferable college credits Forms on Blackboard. Due by Dec 1 Governor s Early College Scholar Certificate: Meet Governor s Seal Requirements with 15 transferable college credits Signed ECS Agreement on file CTE Seal: Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma; and Prescribed sequence of courses in CTE Concentration (see Counselor); and Maintain B average or better in those courses (A or B in each). STEM Seal: New as of 2019 Standard Diploma or Advanced Studies Diploma and satisfy all Math and Science requirements for the Advanced Studies diploma with a "B" average or better in all course work, and successfully complete a 50 hour or more work-based learning opportunity in a STEM area, and Satisfy all requirements for a Career and Technical Education concentration (see Counselor), and pass one of the following: a Board of Education CTE STEM-H credential examination, or an examination approved by the Board that confers a college-level credit in a STEM field Continued next slide

  16. Diploma Seals Forms on Blackboard. Due by Dec 1 Civics Seal Standard or Advanced Studies; and Complete US History and US Government with a B or higher in each; and Have good attendance (less than 22 days missed in 4 years); and No discipline (no Detention, ISD, suspension); and Complete 50 hours of voluntary participation in community service or extracurrilar activities: Volunteer for charitable or religious organization (serve the poor, sick, or less fortunate); or Boy Scout, Girl Scout, similar; or Participate in JROTC; or Political campaigns or government internships; or Boys State, Girls State, or model general assembly; or Or participate in school sponsored extracurricular activities that have a civics focus; OR Any student who enlists in the US Military prior to graduation shall be deemed to have met this community service requirement. Turn in completed application (available in Blackboard) *It is the student s responsibility to inform their Counselor of seals they think they qualify for by Dec 1
