STUDENT GOVERNMENT 2020-2021 Informational power point
WHAT IS STUDENT GOVERNMENT? The objective and purpose of the Student Council is to represent the students of Betty Fairfax High School. Giving students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare.
ELECTION PROCESS To apply for Student government for the 2020-2021 School year please do the following . 1. Please submit two teacher recommendations. 2. Please submit a application. Take your time and fill it out completely. 3. Read through the power point to understand the job you are applying for and the voting process for this year . 4. Sign up for the remind and the end of the power point. 5. Any questions please contact Ms. Edwards
REQUIREMENTS OF STUDENT GOVERNMENTS Grades are based on : Attendance being present and on time everyday Participation Stugois expected to attend school events and be involved in various clubs and activities Community Service at least one service project per month
STUDENT COUNCIL POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Class Representative: Participates in student council meetings Keep your class informed about events and activities. Vote on class officers Participate in most, if not ALL, school and student council activities/events Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct Participate in student council sub committees.
STUDENT BODY POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES MUST HAVE SERVED IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION President (Seniors only ) Vice Presidents Represent the student body at school, district, and community meetings Represent the student body at school, district, and community meetings (as requested) Lead all student council meeting Works closely with, and serves in the absence of, the President Give assistance, guidance, and praise Coordinates the work of committees/ sub-committees Act as facilitator during student council discussions Works with advisor and President to prepare calendar Maintain frequent contact with faculty and administration Participate in monthly presidential meeting Work with advisor on all planning Participate in most, if not ALL, school and student council activities/events Provide an end of the year speech at graduation. Responsible for all-school morning announcement Participate in monthly presidential meeting Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct Participate in most, if not ALL, school and student council activities/events Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct
STUDENT BODY POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES MUST HAVE SERVED IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION Public Relations / Historian Secretary Keeps accurate minutes of meetings Organize publicity for student council and school events. Keeps accurate account of attendance at every meeting Responsible for communication between school and student council Responsible for notifying faculty of representatives that miss meetings Helps maintain student council website and social media accounts. Handles all council correspondence Takes pictures and records events Helps maintain student council files Gathers materials in preparation for student council scrapbook / videos Maintain contact information for people who work with the council Participate in most, if not ALL, school and student council activities/event Participate in most, if not ALL, school and student council activities/events Responsible for all-school morning announcements Responsible for all-school announcements Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct
STUDENT BODY POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES MUST HAVE SERVED IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION Activities/Athletics Treasure Oversee council expenses and revenues Review suggested spirit days submitted by students Maintain an accurate and detailed financial record Report and record votes for spirit days to officers Give monetary advice to the council Plan and calendar all school spirit activities and communicate these with the President and Public Relation . Authorize payment/deposits Create and post signs to remind students of upcoming spirit days Work with President and Vice President in preparing calendar and budget Capture school spirit through various media (video, pictures, etc) Participate in student council sponsored activities/events Organize student events such as assemblies. Assemblies Dances Sports spirit events Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct
STUDENT BODY POSITIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES MUST HAVE SERVED IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION Sustainability/ Service Help plan and coordinate service projects, donation drives, & awareness programs Communicate with and assist the Public Relations Director Help run our school's recycling programs. Help educate our classmates about environmental issues and recycling/ sustainability. Building partnerships with our community to support our school and the environment. Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct
VOTING PROCESS This year voting will be a little different because of COVID-19 school closures. The Student body will vote the first week of school. For student Body positions. Students running for a student body position may only run for one position. Campaigning Campaigning during the summer is not prohibited. If campaigning takes place during the summer you will disqualified to run for office. Campaigning dates are TBA student body position election will be broken down as follows Student votes 40% Application/ teacher recommendation 45% Grades and Attendance 15% Any student running for class rep will submit the application, teacher recommendation and grades. Class officers will be voted in by the class representatives in the fall.
