Population and Housing Census Topics National Bureau of Statistics United Nations Regional Workshop on the 2020 World Programme on Population and Housing Censuses: International Standards and Contemporary Technologies Dar es Salaam, Tanzania 29 May- 01 June, 2017
Introduction The Population and Housing Census of Tanzania is carried out in accordance with the statistics Act No. 9 of 2015. The Act, mandates the National Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the office of the Chief Government Statistician- Zanzibar, to conduct Population and Housing Census within the United Republic of Tanzania in every Ten (10) years. Five Censuses have been conducted since the independence period (ie. 1967, 1978, 1988, 2002 and 2012).
Introduction Cont The sixth Population and Housing Census is planned to be conducted in 2022 which is within the 2020 round of Population and Housing Census. The planned Topics that will be used in the 2022 will use same procedures that were used in 2012 Population and Housing Census. Therefore no major changes in definitions and classifications is anticipated. However, some adjustments may be made if necessary.
Criteria for the choice of topics The national needs (eg. for evaluation of national development programmes). International comparability, both within the region and worldwide. Emerging issues (eg. SDG 2030, Agenda 2063 for Africa). Suitability of topics. Availability of resources. Trend analysis.
The 2022 Population and Housing Census will use topics that were used during the 2012 Population and Housing Census. These included the following as were divided into 10 section: Section A Identification Section B - Demographic and Social Characteristic, Internal and International Migration. Section C - Education for all persons aged 4 years and above
Section D - Economic Activity for persons aged 5 years and above Section E - Female Aged 12 years and above Section F - General and Maternal deaths in the Household Section G Housing Conditions and Ownership of Assets Section H - Agriculture and Livestock Section I - Diaspora Section J Social Security Funds
