The title of the 2023 Synod of Bishops is For a The title of the 2023 Synod of Bishops is For a Synodal Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission. Church: Communion, Participation, Mission. First Step: Listening to ALL the views of ALL Young People. Pope Francis invites us to journey together to create a more inclusive Church. Synodality comes from a Greek word meaning the walking together (syn-) on a particular way (-hodos). Pope Francis wants to create space for respectful mutual listening among Young People spiritual discernment. Pope Francis says, we need a respectful, mutual listening, free of ideology and predetermined agendas .
Guidelines for Teachers/Facilitators Guidelines for Teachers/Facilitators Pope Francis will convene a Synod in 2023 in Rome. He is keen to hear the views of Young People in particular so that we can journey together as a Church in a manner that is sensitive and relevant. This is the first step in that process. We seek to initiate a conversation with Young People in a spirit of mutual respect so that we can hear what they are saying to us. You are invited to conduct this conversation in a prayerful spirit. The first step invites you to use three questions to engender conversation among Young People aged 16 18 Years. Heads of RE are asked to coordinate this in Post-Primary schools with either one A-level RE class or one PRSE class (in schools were there is no Sixth Form - a GSCE RE class will be appropriate). Can you take notes on this conversation please and send a word-processed copy (no more than one A4 page) to: lizzie.rae@derrydiocese.org. A template will be made available to schools. A list of 10 questions with prompts will also be made available and you can dip into a selection these if you wish.
