  2. Helpful hints on how to complete the 6th grade Registration Card

If you have not received a registration card, please contact your elementary school counselor. 0671 IMMA STUDENT XXX-XX-XXXX 5/5/07 06 If your address has changed, please update with elementary school M EVER, BEST PARENT The top of the card is pre- printed with the student s demographic information. If the address listed on the card is incorrect, please update your address with elementary school personnel.

The following courses are REQUIRED for a student in the 6th grade: Language Arts I Math I Science I World History Adv** Physical Education (1/2 yr) Learning Pathways Language Arts I Math I Science I World History Adv PE Learning Pathways These courses should be listed first under the column titled Course Names **All Social Studies classes are advanced**

GLMS offers Advanced level coursework in all academic areas: Language Arts I Advanced Math I Advanced Math II Accelerated (pre-req: 5th grade RAMP) Science I Advanced World History Advanced A S S Language Arts I Advanced Math I Science I World History Advanced PE Learning Pathways Please add an S for Standard or an A for Advanced in the column entitled Level A If you would like to take Math II Accelerated, please replace the Math I course with Math II Accelerated (a pre-requisite of 5th grade RAMP is strongly suggested, but not required. If a student is showing a strong aptitude for the subject and is academically driven, please enroll the student in Math II Accelerated)

  6. Course Numbers are listed next to the course names on the inside of the registration card. For example, Language Arts I Advanced (1 credit/1001020) 1001020=Course Number A S S 1001020 1205010 2002040 2109020 1508600 9100110 Language Arts I Advanced Math I Science I World History Advanced PE Learning Pathways Please write each course number in the column entitled Course Number . A

  7. It is helpful to think of the blank column as a space that you can list the duration of each class. That will make it easy to add up all of your coursework to ensure you have enough classes to fill a 7-period day.   8. Elective Options are listed in the middle and right columns inside the registration card. Please pick at least 4 elective choices and list them in order of preference. For example, I love Chorus and Art is okay.   9. Teachers at the elementary school will have the opportunity to initial the registration card before the card is due to the elementary school counselor.   10. The back of the registration card lists prior standardized testing results and current coursework. Level 3 and above? Advanced ELA/ World History 5th grade coursework in progress Course History does not print Generally, we recommend advanced level Language Arts and World History for students who score a Level 3 or above on the FAST Reading Assessment and advanced level Science and at least advanced level Math for students who score a level 3 or above on the FAST Math Assessment Level 3 and above? Advanced Math/Math II Accelerated/ Science

Please note, if a student scores a Level 1 or 2 on the FAST Reading Assessment, the student will be enrolled in an Intensive Reading course that would replace 1 (full) or 2 (half) of his or her electives. 5th grade coursework in progress Level 1 or 2 Course History does not print Level 1 or 2 If a student scores a Level 1 on the FAST Math Assessment, the student will be enrolled in an Intensive Math course that will replace 1 (full) or 2 (half) of his or her electives.

  14. FAQs 1) I am not going to GLMS next year. Do I have to fill this out? Yes, please. Plans sometime change. 2) Should I place my student in advanced level coursework? If your student is showing an interest in a certain subject and is willing to work hard, absolutely. If you still are unsure, consider enrolling your student in one advanced course in an area of interest. 3) complete the virtual component of the course, please enroll your student in Math II Accelerated. 4) My student has an IEP/504/EP. What courses should my student take? Please list the courses that you feel your student will do well in. Any additional services needed will be discussed at the upcoming articulation meetings at the elementary school. Should I place my student in Math II Accelerated?
