  2. What is your day like? My day is busy managing how insurance plans should cover the cost of medications for their members What tasks do you complete daily? Research new medications and how they may be similar or different from existing medications Daily client meetings to discuss their coverage of medications and their pharmacy budget Review data for trends on drug usages and cost Work with manufacturers to negotiate best prices for insurance plans and ultimately members How do you become a pharmacist? Requires going to college for a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm. D.) 5 to 6 years Must pass national exam after college graduation Must pass state exam in each state you will be practicing in

Work Places for Pharmacist Work Places for Pharmacist Prescription Benefit Management companies Drug research Analytics and Reporting Clinical Coding Pharmacy & Therapeutics Meeting Long term care Dispensing medications at the pharmacy to send to nursing homes and other long term care settings Working with physicians, nurses, dietician and other health care staff to consult on patient s medication needs Retail Working at your local retail pharmacy to dispense medications and consult with patients on their medications Retail corporate locations to manage pharmacy stores and operations Hospital Dispense and prepare medications for patients staying in a hospital Team member included in daily rounds on best individual treatment plan for patient
