Steps for Accelerated Programs Student demonstrates interest in Tech courses in the subject area Student completes Co-op placement related to the subject area 17 years or older, 24 or more credits earned Student completes the Application Package OYAP Coordinator reviews Package Interviews with Mohawk College (TDA) Successful applicants and parents/guardians invited to information session

Application Package The student s application package may include the following: Student s contact information and signatures (parent/guardian if required) Credit summary sheet OYAP participant section one and two, (participation form and request to register) Student s resume Teacher reference form (2 preferred) Student questionnaire re: why they want to go into an apprenticeship

  6. Team Approach to Student Success! Dual Credit Teachers on College campus daily and work with Instructors monitoring progress. Dual Credit Teachers collaborate on any events supporting OYAP (i.e. OYAP Information Night, Next Steps, etc.) Dual Credit Teacher helps to facilitate signing of Training Agreement , OCOT Membership application and registration of at the college. Dual Credit Teachers, Co-op teachers, Guidance Counsellors, Student Success Teachers and Resource Teachers communicate and create a support network for students. Utilize the resources available at the college such as Accessible Learning Services, Employment Services, tutoring, counselling services, interpreters and peer tutoring to address the needs of students.

Role of the Dual Credit Teacher Promotion of OYAP programs at our schools Support OYAP programs offered (i.e. CDP, CYW, etc) Liaison between Mohawk College and HWDSB Communicate marks and progress with Coop teachers Complete reporting of OYAP to SCWI Support students in navigation, Accessible Learning and creating a Confidential Academic Accommodation Plan (CAAP) Advocate and create differented instruction as needed (scribe, peer tutor, review sessions, etc.) Sit on the Regional Planning Team Invoicing

Challenges in AST Level 1 2017-18 Apprenticeship.mp4 HWDSB Requirement to enter past successful Coop in Motive Power Challenges -Inconsistent safety behaviours between workplace and TDA shop -Late for class multiple times -Submitting assignments late -High failure rate relating to Electrical Systems and Drive Line Systems content (Technical Applications of Math and Physics) -ELLs struggled with reading and comprehension of written content 30% Pass rate in this cohort HWDSB Requirement to enter past successful Coop in Motive Power Challenges -Inconsistent safety behaviours between workplace and TDA shop -Late for class multiple times -Submitting assignments late -High failure rate relating to Electrical Systems and Drive Line Systems content (Technical Applications of Math and Physics) -ELLs struggled with reading and comprehension of written content 30% Pass rate in this cohort
