Background Travel Training services since 2005 Mobility Management Partners (MMP) Partners with Access since 2008 Individual Travel Training (300 per year) Group Travel Training (Up to 12) Post-Eligibility / Mobility Management Calls (19,500)
Program Objectives To increase mobility options for persons with disabilities To reduce or stabilize costs of providing paratransit services Measure M recommendation
Elements of an Individual Travel Training Initial Telephone Interview Route Plan Design Transportation Needs Evaluation In-Field Transit Walk and Transit Usage Follow-up Surveys
Impact of Travel Training Majority (60% - 70%) of graduates of Travel Training use fixed route, 1 to 3 years after training 47-51% of graduates use fixed route 4 to 6 years after training 1 of 4 trained take fixed route, but no Access trips 10% use Access and take NO fixed route trips Travel trained customers use paratransit, take it half as frequently as customers who have not taken Travel Training
Responding to COVID-19 and Travel Training Next Steps MMP supported Access in COVID-19 test and vaccine information calls Initial suspension of Travel Training services Modification of Travel Training for pandemic Developed and successfully implemented a safe, physically- distanced, two-part training: Virtual and In-Person Training Between Nov. 2020 & June 2021, 289 Virtual trainings
