Adapting S-4 Charting Specifications for Submarine Cables in Deep Sea Mining

Proposal presented by the Nautical Cartography Working Group to adapt S-4 charting specifications (B443 & C408) for submarine cables, considering deep sea mining. The initiative aims to develop uniform standards for cable charting globally, reduce lead times for updates, and address hazards from various activities, in alignment with ICPC and IHO objectives. Highlighting the critical role of submarine cables as global infrastructure supporting international communications and economic activities.
