Fish & Game Code Sec. 2118(i) Species may be added to the Restricted Species List: by the Commission in cooperation with the Department of Food and Agriculture, when the class, order, family, genus or species is proven to be undesirable and a menace to native wildlife or the agricultural interests of the state
Threats to Californias Wildlife Predation Competition Pathogen Introduction & Spread
Past Use of FGC 2118(i) 2007: 7 species and 2 genera added Non-native invasive species that pose[d] a threat to native fish and wildlife populations through competition for food, predation, alteration of habitats and/or as potential sources of introducing parasites to native fish and wildlife
Staff Recommendation Deny: Would require permit exemptions pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 6881 that limit oversight and incur potentially significant administrative and enforcement costs.
Fish & Game Code Sec. 6881 Frogs to be used in frog-jumping contests shall be governed by this article only. Frogs to be so used may be taken at any time and without a license or permit.
Fish & Game Code Sec. 2120(a) The commission, in cooperation with the Department of Food and Agriculture, shall adopt regulations governing both: (1) the entry, importation, possession, transportation, keeping, confinement, or release of any and all wild animals that will be or that have been imported into this state The regulations shall be designed to prevent damage to the native wildlife or agricultural interests of this state resulting from the existence at large of these wild animals, and to provide for the welfare of wild animals and the safety of the public.
Fish & Game Code Sec. 2116.5 It is the intention of the Legislature that the importation, transportation, and possession of wild animals shall be regulated to protect the native wildlife and agricultural interests of this state against damage from the existence at large of certain wild animals.
