  2. Agenda Continuing education Why does AFCEA support continuing education? How do chapters get on board? What tools are available to assist chapters? What are the lessons learned/best practices? How does it apply to online sessions? Other Professional Development Center offerings

Background Continuing education supports several required certifications Focus Cybersecurity and acquisition Government, especially DoD requirements Maintaining a required certification is often an acceptable justification for event attendance Formal attendance documentation is a valuable AFCEA member benefit

Participating Organizations CompTIA Continuing education units (CEUs) Currently supports A+, Network+, Security+,Data+, CySA+, Cloud+, CASP+, PenTest+, DataSys+, and Linux+ Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Continuing professional education (CPEs) Supports GIAC family of certifications Certification arm of SANS Institute CertNexus Continuing education credits (CECs) CyberSec First Responder (CFR)

  5. What About Other Certifications? Other certification authorities such as DAU, ISC2 and PMI suggest we say our sessions may support their requirements Individuals should check with their supervisor and applicable certification organization to confirm training and certification maintenance requirements

  6. What About Webinars? We can support attendance documentation for members when chapter groups participate in an approved webinar if the participation is observed and validated by a chapter officer who submits properly formatted attendance sheet. Any attendee can self-certify. We share tips on the website.

How Chapters Engage Select sessions At least one hour of vendor-neutral content Best topics relate to cybersecurity and/or privacy Classes, panels, speakers, workshops Add to AFCEA calendar and annotate entry for CE support Submit review request to AFCEA - https://www.afcea.org/secure/cesubmission.cfm Formal review is required for formal attendance documentation Use approval info to promote event Take attendance, run membership check and submit attendance list to AFCEA

  9. Best Practices Start early Use a regional approach Work with an AFCEA International event (TechNet Augusta and TechNet Indo-Pacific) Check guidance and follow procedures Designate a chapter officer for oversight Follow up with attendance in a timely manner after event (same month)

How Headquarters Supports Provides instructions and examples in chapter officer tools on the portal Guides chapter session reviews performed by certifying organizations Provides review results and approved wording for promotion Sends attendance documentation for onsite sessions to AFCEA members if arranged by chapter.

Lessons Learned Start & prepare abstracts carefully At least 60 minutes of vendor neutral content Introduce topic as it relates to a cybersecurity threat, challenge, opportunity, or best practice Spell out all acronyms on first use Paste into form using plain text option Session description is MOST important Include learning objective in description. Use approval info in promotion Properly format attendance records & check membership before end of month

Online Courses AFCEA has partnered with MindEdge to provide over 100 online courses Subjects include Agile, Communication, Emergency Management, Leadership, Management, Project Management, Six Sigma & Lean, and Women in Business AFCEA has partnered with FedLearn to provide 34 courses in Intelligence/Data Science Discount available for AFCEA members
