What is the existing policy on school attendance? PS 63 requires all students to attend school everyday. If a child is going to be absent, a note to the teacher either the day they are absent or the day they return is required. Notes can be delivered electronically via Class Dojo to the teacher or they can be backpacked. (Link to attendance policy in Student Handbook) There are weekly attendance meetings to discuss chronic absenteeism and identify ways to support families getting their children to school everyday. Students that are absent for 3 days go on the 3 day absent list and the families are engaged by supervisors, attendance teachers and guidance counselors.
How can the current school policy be changed to become more effective? What new systems can we create that will encourage attendance? How can we better communicate the importance of attendance to our families? How can we better identify at-risk students? Note catcher: Record your answers in the note catcher to the right.
