  2. A new pupil from China has no spoken English and can t express himself. In the school playground one of the pupils in his class starts to happy slap him. Other pupils laugh and the boy is humiliated, and has a red hand mark on his face. The pupil is unable to describe the incident to the TA who supports him in lessons, but other pupils give a clear account.

  3. Two pupils overhear a caretaker making comments about Gypsies, saying that their site should be shut down and they were trouble .

  4. Two pupils are overheard saying they are going to meet outside the paki shop that night.

  5. Three Year 6 girls are practicing dance routines in the corner of the playground. One of them gets silly waving her head around and another one says, Stop being a spacker!

  6. A parent is overheard saying that the white mother of a black child within the school must have spent too much time on the sunbed when she was pregnant .

  7. Year 3 are making mothers day cards. One pupils says she wants to make two cards because she has two mummies. Some of the other pupils laugh and one calls her a lesbian.

  8. A Year 4 pupil calls his friend a paki. Both children are white.

  9. At playtime the Year 5 boys are playing football. Two girls come to join in. One boy states Girls can t play football.

  10. During an after school sports club with a coach, the coach overhears one Year 6 boy mutter to a Year 4 boy who misses the ball, You're such a girl!

  11. An autistic Year 3 child is given a playmobile character by the teacher. He responds by dropping it and saying Urgghh I won't play that, it's got brown skin!

  12. Year 4 are watching a childish cartoon during wet playtime. One year 4 boy whispers to the girl beside him, This is so gay!

  13. A Year 5 girl is reading with a teaching assistant. She sees a character in the book wearing a turban and says, My Dad says the terrorists are moving into Durham .

  14. A Polish girl regularly brings a packed lunch to school which contains a casserole and rice. A couple of children sat near her often giggle and make smelly gestures when she opens her lunchbox.

  15. Whilst playing in the yard at hometime a Year 5 child is overheard giggling and saying to another Year 5 child, Your brother is so gay! The children both laugh.

  16. A Year 6 girl is chatting to a Year 4 girl at the lunch table. She asks, God, is your Mam having another baby?
