  5. Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Concentration What is an Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist (AGCNS)? A CNS is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Provides expert care to adult-gero patients with complex health conditions, acute and chronic healthcare needs. AGCNS has education and experience with health promotion and disease prevention to impact patient outcomes across settings, such as hospital, private practice or clinic, and along the wellness-illness continuum.

  6. What is unique about the AGCNS role? CNS is an expert in a population (e.g. Adult Gerontology), type of problem (e.g. pain), setting (e.g. critical care), type of care (e.g. palliative care), or disease (e.g. congestive heart failure). Drives Evidence-based practice to decrease complications, reduce length of stay, decrease costs. Impacts care and patient outcomes by promoting patient safety, decreasing re-admissions, serving as a patient advocate and leading Magnet attainment

  7. Can an AGCNS prescribe and bill for services? Yes, as an APRN, a certified and licensed AGCNS can apply for prescriptive authority in Louisiana and 39 other states. AGCNSs can bill for services either directly or via the hospital, 28.86% bill private insurance, 26.43% Medicare, 24% Medicaid

  8. Where does a CNS practice?
