  2. ADVANTAGES OF INFORMAL BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Saves Time: It is spontaneous and flexible, it does not take time in circulating the message. Speed: Grapevine operates with much greater and considerable speed. Creation of Ideas: Management can obtain various ideas and suggestions from the subordinates through informal medium of communication. Mutual Understanding:-Mutual understanding and informal relations is the core of informal communication. Dr. Sujata Chavan

  3. Free Communication: In informal communication people can communicate openly and freely with each other and keep in touch to know things. Effective Communication: Every one takes actively participation in informal communication. No Legal Obligation: There are no rules and regulations to govern the communication process. So no legal obligation against those who participated in faulty communication. Helpful in Decision Making: The employees may informally help the manager in decision making process. Dr. Sujata Chavan

  4. DISADVANTAGES OF INFORMAL BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Incorrect information: As there are no rules and regulations for governing the communication process it sometimes spreads incorrect information. Interpretation changes: As the messages are pass on from one group to another there are chances that the nature and meaning of actual message is wrong interpreted. No Authority or Control: Informal communication does not recognize official relations and authority of the line. There is no place for respect to the superiors by the subordinates. Irresponsibility: It is difficult to assign responsibility or pin point the origin of the false information or rumors. Dr. Sujata Chavan

  5. Incomplete Information: In the informal communication , the information may be incomplete which results in misunderstanding and misinterpretation. Damage to the Organization: The informal system carries non-factual , self- servicing and incomplete information that causes damage to the organization. Inadequate: Informal communication cannot shoulder the entire communication load of an organization. Only certain matters can be fed into grapevine to circulate. Dr. Sujata Chavan
