Training grants Training grants - - Wh What at are the are the major major challenges challenges? ? 1. Finding out who to talk to 2. Table 1/ Table 2: Faculty data and departmental data Primary appointments of faculty (in particular for CRC) Dual primary appointments Comprehensive list of primary appointments in individual departments to correctly report unique faculty for training grants including Centers and Interdepartmental Program 3. Table 4: Faculty funding (big support by Chris Dorney) Access tofunding info managed by different units (BU, BUSM, BMC) How to best report support for clinical trials Inconsistencies in data drawn from SAP and NIH xTRACT 4. Table 5: Trainee publications Info housed with TG or faculty often out of data and/or incomplete Manual PubMed search misses abstracts

Training grants Training grants - - Wh What at are the are the major major challenges challenges? ? 5. Table 6: Applicant and trainee numbers, metrics and demographics for the last five completed academic years Predoctoral students Application and recruitment data (no access to CRC, SPH, MED) Citizenship/ visa information URM status Disabilities Prior research experience Post-doc data All of the above (but prior research info) Prior publications 6. Table 8: Trainee enrollment, career outcomes and support Correct enrollment/graduation (PhD) and hiring dates (postdocs) Gaps in trainee funding outside TG appointment LinkedIn, NIH reporter and other online searches for career outcomes Very limited info on subsequent funding success 7. Implementation of NIH xTRACT

Wh What at is NIH xTRACT is NIH xTRACT? ? NIH xTRACT is a tool embedded in eraCommons designed for the generation of training grant data tables xTRACT is supposed to use data already in the training grant records to populated training grant tables Using xTRACT will become mandatory for Training grant progress reports October 2019 Training grant applications/ renewals January 2020
Wh What at are the challenges with are the challenges with xTRACT xTRACT? ? 1.To my knowledge, no-one at BU is using it yet 2.xTRACT is supposed to use data already in the training grant records to populated training grant tables BUT xTRACT does require manual upload of various/ numerous data 3.Someone will need to upload this data into each training grant account 4.Unclear if institutional data will be transferable between BU training grants 5.We/GMS as well as OPD do not have access to any of the training grant accounts in eraCommons (issue with application package assembly?) 6.Unclear how xTRACT will handle/ allow for submission of incomplete data 7.Likely will add an additional step to the application process for data transfer from me/GMS to training grant admins to xTRACT (new bottleneck for last minute changes to data tables prior to submission) Suggestions Suggestions? ?
