  5. Discussion Norms and Meeting Protocols Promote risk-taking by not assigning specific comments to individual members in meeting summaries and minutes. Maintain respect before, during, & after meetings. Seek clarification and check understanding to avoid mistakenly attributing ideas to an individual or organization represented on the council. Keep improvements in student learning at the core of the discussions. Students should drive the conversation. Stay engaged in the issues. Actively address implicit biases and instill cultural proficiency in discussions. Encourage discussion from all voices of members. Be additive, not repetitive. Let members know if pre-reading or other pre-meeting assignments require more than 30 minutes of preparation time. Make it fun! 5

Progress Since April AAAC Meeting Feedback Revisions Publication Presented draft to BESE and Board Advisory Councils Compiled feedback into one document Awaiting final review by leadership Reviewed each comment and determined what edits (if any) to make to the document Anticipate publishing the final document in early summer Received correspondence through an online form from 22 organizations and individuals Plan to share broadly, along with districts being reviewed in SY2024-2025 7

Accountability System Review Advisory Committee External stakeholder group tasked with reviewing the existing district and school accountability system Responsible for providing insights on the strengths and weaknesses of the current district and school accountability system Charged with producing a report that includes recommendations for change for the Commissioner s consideration 12

Roles and Responsibilities Accountability System Review Advisory Committee Accountability and Assistance Advisory Council (AAAC) Council and membership established by state law Ongoing work Consulted on all matters pertaining to accountability and assistance Required to weigh in on changes to the accountability and assistance system and relevant state regulations May react to recommendations and/or pose questions for the review committee s consideration Established by DESE First phase of a longer-term scope of work requiring stakeholder, DESE, and public input Tasked with reviewing the accountability system (system of measurement) May propose changes that DESE will bring to the AAAC for discussion 13
