Africa RISING East and Southern Africa 2016 - 2021 project log frame INTERVENTION LOGIC Purpose Provide pathways out of hunger and poverty for small holder families through sustainably intensified farming systems that sufficiently improve food, nutrition, and income security, particularly for women and children, and conserve or enhance the natural resource base. OBJECTIVELY VERIFIABLE INDICATORS Per capita food consumption and availability in the target areas increases at household level The proportion of household income due to agricultural activities increases Proportion of children below 5 years having adequate nutrition and with normal growth indicators increases Number of hectares under improved SI technologies increases MEANS/SOURCE OF VERIFICATION Program ex- post evaluation report by IFPRI Poverty monitoring surveys by local governments Household expenditure surveys in project action sites by local governments IMPORTANT ASSUMPTIONS Partner countries continue to invest in agriculture in a way that compliments program activities Feed the Future priority countries and investments remain consistent with project Political stability in countries with intervention sites

Project Outcome 1: Productivity of crop-livestock systems in selected semi-arid and sub-humid agro- ecologies of ESA enhanced OBJECTIVELY VERIFIABLE INDICATORS MEANS/SOUR CE OF VERIFICATION IMPORTANT ASSUMPTION S OUTPUT Output 1.1: Proven integrated crop- livestock technologies for improved productivity diversified diets and income in target agro-ecologies delivered. Output 1.2: Climate smart crop and crop-livestock technologies in targeted landscapes and semi-arid areas delivered. Output 1.3: The awareness and use of locally available organic nutrient resources (manure, crop residues, etc.,) and fertilizer at community level enhanced. Etc to 1.5

  5. OBJECTIVELY VERIFIABLE INDICATORS MEANS/ SOURCE OF VERIFICATION IMPORTANT ASSUMPTIONS ACTIVITY Activity 1.1.1: Assess and iteratively improved crop-livestock combinations from phase 1. Activity 1.1.2: Evaluate and implement pathways that are effective at improving access to seeds and clonal material of modern varieties of legumes, cereals, vegetable and forages. Activity 1.2.1: Farmer participatory experimentation with crop and soil management and integrated crop-livestock technologies in on-farm situations etc up to 1.5.2
