  2. What is a Program Work Team (PWT)? Cornell Cooperative Extension Program Work Teams (PWT) are communities of learning and practice that focus on specific Extension areas and issues. PWTs bring Cornell faculty and staff, CCE educators, industry members and stakeholders together to collaborate and innovate. Purpose This new PWT (2023) has the goal of connecting CCE educators, Cornell staff, and external stakeholders to collaborate on opportunities for advancing climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency across agricultural, forested, and managed lands in New York State.   4. Motivation New York State Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA or Climate Act) passed in 2019 Goal: net zero emissions in all sectors of the economy 85% reduction in anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 Agriculture and Climate Change PWT 4

  5. "Survey of CCE Staff: Climate Knowledge and Effective Learning Formats" Conducted summer of 2022 Results indicate there may be a need for additional educational opportunities for both CCE staff and subsequently external audiences on climate practices including Silvopasture Agroforestry On-farm energy efficiency Solar energy for on-farm use Water storage for drought resilience Forest management for carbon sequestration Agriculture and Climate Change PWT 5

Statewide Program Needs Educating stakeholders on the content and implications of New York State s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and related policy Collaborating on educational programming (Factsheets, webinars, field days, etc.) and research related to climate mitigation and adaptation practices and strategies relevant to New York State agricultural stakeholders Determining gaps, needs, and priorities related to agriculture and climate change across the state Agriculture and Climate Change PWT 6

  7. Statewide Program Needs Cont. Assisting farmers across all production areas of New York State agriculture in reaching the greenhouse gas emission reduction and carbon sequestration goals outlined in the CLCPA Providing information and resources related to accessing grant and incentive programs to fund agricultural climate change mitigation and adaptation projects in New York State Developing stronger relationships between (a) CCE extension agents and Cornell University (and other NYS university) faculty researchers and (b) CCE extension agents and NYS technical service providers (SWCDs, SWCC, NRCS, etc.) to better serve farmers Agriculture and Climate Change PWT 7

  8. Getting Started Planning and strategizing Setting up a listserv, shared resource folder, and meeting schedule Collaboratively developing priorities, objectives, goals, desired outcomes, and timelines Working collectively on projects and programming Agriculture and Climate Change PWT 8
