FY2016 Quad Chart Reviews Day - 2: SDS, FCS, AM, AI, PS, GAF, RS, ES, FCMS, Wx & SSM Presented to: REDAC Subcommittee on Aircraft Safety (SAS) Date: September 15, 2016
FY2016 Quad Charts Accomplishments 6 Programs with 42 Quad Charts 12. TAS Terminal Area Safety 13. HF Human Factors (flight deck) 14. MI aircraft Maintenance and Inspection 15. SIC Structure Integrity Composite 16. SIM Structure Integrity Metallic (including additive manufacturing & emerging materials) 17. UAS Unmanned Aircraft Systems 2
SAS Questions Quad Charts Specifics 12. TAS What is the sponsor outcome for A11H.TAS.2? Assume A11H.TAS.2 they are Aviation Safety Technologies Inc. (AST) and Metron/Airbus. Do they plan to change operational procedures / guidelines based upon the research results? Will there be follow-on research? How can there be FY16 accomplishments for A11H.TAS.4 when the budget shows them at zero in FY16? 13. HF HF-03-A11G: What are the next steps of the research? HF-08-A11G: What is the status of the FY17/18 funding? Could not find a linkage between the research requirement and sponsor outcome for improved rotorcraft operational safety. Human factors maintenance risk management activities do not seem to be directly addressing the NTSB recommendations and FAA ARC. 14. MI Maintenance and Inspection (no PM specific comments received) 15. SIC Research generally well targeted toward achieving sponsor outcome. The lightning strike test standards for composites task does not seem to be defined sufficiently at this point in time 3
SAS Questions Quad Charts Specifics 16. SIM Research generally well targeted toward achieving sponsor outcome. Does funding support? Look forward to the discussion of additive this fall 17. UAS How does the research support the overall strategy? Lots of funding for this area need to make sure it is all connected. Hope that we will see clarity in the UAS CONOPS presentation on Thursday A11L.UAS.6 FY 16 and FY17 critical milestones seem identical. What changes? Relationship of A11L.UAS.1, A11L.UAS.2, and A11L.UAS.10 is not clear. Aree there relationships between specific A11L.UAS.xx and the FAA pathfinders. A11L.UAS.30, project kickoff is not an accomplishment. How do these efforts relate to industry standards? A11L.UAS.34 critically important area. Will the work be done in FY16? A11L.UAS.36 and A11L.UAS.37 seem especially important! A11L.UAS.37 does not necessarily seem like research. Uses term UAV when the rest of the FAA uses UAS (A11L.UAS.38 & 39). The sponsor outcomes are really products. The outcome is more along the lines of regulatory guidance and standards for incorporation of fuel cell technology in UAS 4
SAS Questions a. HF HF-03-A11G: What are the next steps of the research? b. HF HF-08-A11G: What is the status of the FY17/18 funding? c. FMCS FMCS-01-A11E: What is the timeline and funding status? d. FMCS FMCS-01-A11E: What is the timeline and funding status? 5
