AHS Review Current State and Next Steps Findings The final report says Alberta s provincial healthcare model deserves great praise as the largest integrated health care system in Canada and the driver of many successes. AHS has streamlined governance and accountability, driven standardization of programs and enabled greater integration in areas such as administration and the new Connect Care AHS is a change ready organization, with a strong organizational will to drive efficiency while delivering excellent care
AHS Review Current State and Next Steps Where we are today AHS Review Implementation Plan shared publicly on Tuesday, October 13 by Government of Alberta. Cabinet approval to move ahead with about 50 initiatives at this time. The 50 initiatives fall into 4 groups: 1. Alberta Surgical Initiatives 2. Contracting Initiatives 3. Physician Initiatives 4. Operational Best Practices The approved list is available at AHS.ca/AHSreview.
AHS Review Current State and Next Steps Guiding Principles of Implementation As we move forward, we are committed to high-quality and accessible patient care. We will continue to be a learning organization; we will continue to assess and reassess plans and adapt as needed. We will make sure that changes are done with the long view of a 10-year vision for healthcare in Alberta. We will ensure that local decision-making and local input is embedded in our work.
AHS Review Current State and Next Steps Guiding Principles of Implementation We will respect and support employees and physicians through any change. We will make sure that change supports our Patient First strategy and that patients are engaged through the continued planning and implementation work. And finally, we will continue to engage with our stakeholders and communities throughout.

2020-2023 Health Plan priorities: Improve patient and family experiences: Expand community-based and home care options. Enhance access to Addiction and Mental Health services. Leverage technology, such as Connect Care and Virtual Care.
2020-2023 Health Plan priorities: Improve patient and population health outcomes: Implement the Alberta Surgical Initiative. Work with our partners towards health equity for Indigenous Peoples and communities. Focus on Patient and family centred care Improve sustainability and integration of addiction and mental healthcare. Take actions to ensure acute care sustainability.
2020-2023 Health Plan priorities: Improve the experience and safety of our people: Continue our commitment to diversity, inclusion, cultural competency and sensitivity. Increase psychological safety, mental health and wellness supports. Implement the Indigenous workforce strategy. Optimize scope of practice and skill mix in both nursing and clinical support services. Optimize organizational design through a management review.
