Alcalde A Mexican official much like a mayor
Provisional Government A temporary government set up until an official election can be held. Also called interim government.
Regular Army A force of full-time trained soldiers who serve for a set period of time.
militia A group of armed volunteers who agree to protect their homes.
Siege When an army surrounds a town or fort and waits for the enemy to give up.
Cavalry Soldiers on horseback.
Infantry Foot soldiers
Reinforcements Extra soldiers sent to a place to make the force there stronger.
Bayonets Long blades attached to the end of a rifle.
Tactical Retreat A purposeful and organized pullback of troops from an enemy.
