  1. You cant have your cake and eat it, too.

  2. Putting aside the general coherence problems of the proposition of aligning UFOs with the Bible, there are unintended (and undesirable) consequences for GENERAL BELIEVERS UNBELIEVERS

  3. 1. Requires ignoring obvious disconnections with the premise God, angels, demons biological life forms?

  4. 2. No references to God, angels, demons arriving from another planet. 3. No descriptions of flying vehicles consistent with deep space travel (or true flight) Ezekiel 1? 2 Kings 2?

  5. BELIEVER Someone who assigns sacred status to the Bible Someone who believes the content of the Bible Someone whose religious faith is based upon that content

  6. For the BELIEVER The idea of defending UFOs with the Bible typically means affirming: UFOs are in the Bible Aliens are demons, or Angels, demons are good / bad aliens

  7. So whats the problem with that? Depending on how you talk about it, it could destroy your theology, though you don t realize it.

  8. BELIEVERS typically want: 1. Okay if UFOs are in Bible 2. Aliens = angels / demons 3. God made them, so God isn t an ET Coherence problems

  9. 1. You cant divorce God from being an ET if you have passages like Ezekiel 1 being a UFO.

  10. In ch 10 cherub replaces ox. This is of no consequence since the bodies of throne cherubs are often oxen in the iconography. Block: Since the inaugural vision came to the prophet from the north, the frontal view (south) would have had a human face, with the other three being arranged as follows If the faces in 10:14 are also listed in clockwise order, the sequence is identical, and the cherub is identified with the bull. Daniel Isaac Block, The Book of Ezekiel, Chapters 1 24. The New International Commentary on the Old Testament. Grand Rapids, MI: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., 1997.

  11. Cardinal Points of Babylonian Zodiac Zodiac constellations (and other groups of stars) travel in a circle (wheel / ecliptic) Wheels full of eyes

  12. Back to the point: You can t divorce God from being an ET if you have passages like Ezekiel 1 being a UFO. If God is an ET, lots of problems

  13. 2. How are Gods attributes intact? Eternality? (Eternal life) Omnipotence? (subject to natural laws) Omniscience? (limitations) Why pray?

  14. 2. How are Gods attributes intact? Creation (no longer dualistic) No graven image? none besides me , none like me ? Truth? (messaging contrary to reality) Love?

  15. 3. Christology? Incarnation? (why? Changing bodies?) Sinlessness? (on what basis?) Atonement? (nature, extent) Eternality? (in Christ)

  16. 4. Aliens are angels / demons? Space craft? (no assoc. with angels, demons) No necessity for craft Displaces spiritual world with material world? Where does a creator God fit?

  17. Same cherry-picking dilemma What is the litmus test for assenting to this God stuff is just aliens and then backing off the claim? Could be some ramifications you don t want to accept.

  18. 1. Does not alter the exclusivity of the gospel (e.g., John 14:6) 2. Does not alter eternal destiny for the unbeliever.

  19. 3. Does not alter what the Bible calls sin (ET would still say XYZ is sin ) 4. Does not rectify divine (ET) acts that you might think are abhorrent.

  20. 5. Doesnt put you in a better standing than believers (still on the wrong side rejecting ET) 6. If you align yourself with ET to be on the right side, see #s 1-4

  21. 7. In short, it doesnt provide a more palatable religion / faith in place of the traditional one you don t like.

  22. Suggestion: Let the Bible be what it is and don t impose the UFO / ET question on it. God / angels / demons distinct from ET.
