PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENCES IN BASKETBALL SKILLS REVIEWED FROM TRAINING TIME AND GENDER IN EXTRACURRICULAR BASKETBALL ACTIVITIES AT SMAN CIMANGGUNG THORIQ DZAKY RAIS UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA

  2. PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Introduction Exercise is a physical and mental activity that is important for maintaining and improving one's health (Hindun et al., 2022). Through exercise, a person can improve physical fitness, reduce the risk of various diseases, and improve overall quality of life (Pranata, 2022). Exercise can often be implemented in various settings, one of which is the school environment. In schools, exercise is carried out during physical education lessons or as part of extracurricular activities. One sport popular with students in the school environment is basketball (Hermawan & Nugroho, 2023). In basketball, there are four basic skills or techniques that students must learn. These include dribbling, shooting, passing, and lay-ups (Cahyadi et al., 2022). However, the effectiveness of training in improving basketball skills is greatly influenced by the allocated practice time

  3. PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Introduction However, the effectiveness of training in improving basketball skills is greatly influenced by the allocated practice time. Basketball was invented by Dr. The game was invented by Dr. James Naismith at Springfield College, Massachusetts, which was part of the Young Men's Christian Association Training School in 1891 (Walker, 2024). Basketball is a team sport played by two competing teams. Each team consists of five members, and the main objective of the game is to score points by shooting the ball into the opponent's basket (Gigih, 2020). Basketball is played with a large ball and requires techniques that involve manual dexterity. In this game, each team attempts to score as many points as possible while preventing the opponent from shooting the ball into their basket. Strategy and cooperation between team members are crucial in creating scoring opportunities (Zulfiani, 2021). Thus, extracurricular activities are not merely additional activities, but rather an important element of education that can contribute to improving student achievement. This demonstrates that achieving educational outcomes requires (YMCA) International

  4. PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Methods This study used a comparative approach to compare basketball skill outcomes from each training session. A comparative approach is a method for understanding and gaining knowledge about something through a process of comparison (Firli, 2022). This study used the Basketball Skill and Performance Test (BSPT). The BSPT is a new test used to assess basketball skills and performance (Salafi et al., 2023). This test consists of five items administered simultaneously: free throws, dribbling (crossover, between the legs, behind the back), passing, shooting, and lay-ups. Assessment is conducted comprehensively based on the process, through demonstrations, and results measured by the time required to complete the test. Assessment is carried out by calculating completion time plus penalty time.

  5. PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Result The results of the Independent Sample t-test showed that the difference in basketball skills between morning and afternoon training times for male (p = 0.300) and female (p = 0.620) participants was not significant (p > 0.05). The average basketball skill score for males was higher during afternoon training (54.38) than morning (51.57), while for females it was higher during morning training (54.13) than afternoon (51.71).

  6. PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Discussion Independent sample t-test results showed no significant difference between morning and afternoon training for either men or women. Men tended to perform better in the morning, while women performed better in the afternoon. Important factors for successful basketball skills include balance, strength, hand- eye coordination, confidence, wrist flexibility, leg muscle strength, and speed. Increased cortisol levels in the morning (Cortisol Awakening Response) prepare the body for daily activities. During the day, the body is in an ergotropic phase with optimal organ function for activity. This study aligns with the findings of Scanlan (2015) who found no significant differences between men and women in the physical demands of basketball, but contradicts the research of Rubio (2010) who found differences based on physical development and long-range shooting ability.

  7. PEHR STUDY PROGRAM Faculty of Sport Education and Health UNIVERSITAS PENDIDIKAN INDONESIA Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Conclusion The conclusion is that there is no difference between morning and afternoon practice times for either men or women. For men, basketball skills during morning practice are better than afternoon practice, while for women, basketball skills during afternoon practice are better than morning practice.
