Question 1 Repeat the question to show you have understood it Identify where you saw the play and when Tell the examiner which actor you are going to focus on If you want you can give a few sentences detailing what happens in the play- just a brief description similar to section A question 1 Use quotes to back up your answer- have 3 prepared For each quote detail what the actor was doing with his face, body and voice Use keywords- pace, pause, pitch, emphasis, tone, accent, posture etc Say why the actor was behaving in that way- themes of the play, this was to show Link the answer to the question in the exam Show a passion for it- what was your opinion- did you think it was successfl

  3. When Mickey first entered the stage, he threw himself against the door excitably. He then began to knock on the door in a very determined manner before opening the letter box and pushing his face against it as though trying to get through it, he yelled Mam, will you open the bloody door? His pitch was high with a fast breathless pace showing he was a young boy When Jones Shouted the line Gis us a sweet loudly to Edward in a fast pace it showed the audience a dominating personality of his character. He had a demanding tone and a strong livudlian accent to show his aggressive nature. Jones has a strong accent to show that the character came from a working class background. One moment where I saw clear acting was towards the beginning of the play when the character of Mrs Lyons says Give one to me she spoke the line twice; the first time was said quietly and at a slow pace but the second time it said quickly and spoke louder. When speaking she spoke with a patronising tone, making sure Mrs Johnstone felt uncomfortable and under pressure.

  4. 6. SECTION C STUDY OF A LIVE THEATRE PRODUCTION SEEN Question 4 Choose one extract from a play that you have seen in performance. [20 marks] This question requires candidates to focus on acting skills seen in a live theatre performance. 7. Question 2 You really need to re the question in the exam paper It may ask you to discuss the same extract or a later scene in the play- you can have an extract as two separate scenes You generally are doing the same amount of detail in the first question which the explanation but you are extending to evaluating- so you are saying why! In the past this has been a maintain and developing question and last year they linked it to style- until you get into that exam room we don t know which course the question will take You need to relate it to when you have studied the play also

  8. The style of the performance was communicated clearly because the stage was set up as a typical 1950 s working class liverpudlian street and the actors were able to move around the working stage and use all entrances and exits naturalistically which I thought was fantastic When Jones said the line Where are my pills he had a desperate and eager tone and his eyes were piercing at Linda to draw the audience into his situation. This made the audience feel pity and sadness for the character because he has stopped caring about Linda as much as he did earlier on in the play and is just focused on the pills to get him through the day. Jones posture was slouched and his feet shuffling around the floor when looking for the pills, Jones has lost the energy of the 7 year old he was playing earlier on in the play and shows the audience he is a shell of his forma self, this is in keeping with the naturalistic style of the character and the realism of Liverpool at this time
