New Topic: Animal Rescuers Hi children! Mr. Williams here! Guess, what!? We re starting a brand new topic all about animals and I m very excited to begin. Though it would be amazing to be at school, there s lots of great activities you can do in your own home/garden!
Entry Point Watch these video s on the Chester Zoo youtube channel about the Poison Dart Frogs and the Jaguars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBFoVQ_K3qQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrUInP1i6xw
Capturing Curiosity Answer these questions with your adult: Do you have a pet? How do you look after your pet? Which animals do you know about? Can you describe one animal from the video? Can you show me how it might move? Where might you find that animal? How would you describe this animal s home? Do all animals look the same? What is similar/different between the two animals? Which animal is bigger/smaller? Why does this animal have a long neck/tail/trunk/fur/wings/etc.?
Activity 1: What is a Jungle? Watch this video about Rainforests https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMdD6TTDZ_g The only difference between a jungle and a rainforest is the size of the trees. Activities: Using colouring pens, draw a picture of a jungle. With your adult you could research more animals that might live there to add to your picture. Draw, colour and cut-out animals to make puppets for your Jungle scene. It could look like this but with your puppets. If your have a garden with a tree, another fun activity could be to use some paper and colours to do tree/leaf rubbings.
Activity 2: Movers and Shakers With an adult or even your whole family, take turns calling out different Jungle animals. Everyone else must move how they think that animal would. If your have access to paint, make animal tracks using your hands on paper. (describe how the paint feels and how you can make the different colours by mixing them) Make a Jungle animal den!! Using chairs, sheets, blankets and whatever you can (supervised of course), see who can make the best animal den. Talk about which animal lives in your den and how you could make it right for them.
Activity 3: Animal Dress-Up Draw, colour and make masks of different Jungle animals. They don t have to be tied by strings but that can be held up at least. With your new mask, find out with your adult different facts about your animal: When do they come out? What do they eat? Where do they make their den/nest/home? Why do they live in Jungles?
*Important Activity 4 will be for next week. You don t have to do ALL of the tasks in each activity unless you want do, but at least one. I would absolutely love pictures of all the amazing things you are doing with your child.
