To develop the understanding and approach needed for Question One on the exam To improve close reading skills
Question One is worth 30 Marks. It tests the following reading objectives: understand and collate explicit meanings understand, explain and collate implicit meanings and attitudes select, analyse and evaluate what is relevant to specific purposes understand how writers achieve effects.
Read the questions carefully-some of the most important instructions are in BOLD Do not use quotations when it asks you to explain a part of the passage IN YOUR OWN WORDS Spend more time on the parts of the Question that are worth more marks. These are D, H and I. Overall you have around 55 minutes to answer this question BOLD IN YOUR OWN WORDS
