  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  2. About Me Name: Sanjay Rao Education: B.S. Electrical Engineering M.S. Data Science Always Learning Work: Principal Member of Technical Staff at AT&T I work on solving interesting problems every day I sometimes use AI to solve problems and help computers communicate with humans using Natural Language

  3. Intelligence can be defined as the ability to learn and to solve complex problems or make decisions with outcomes benefiting us and has evolved in lifeforms to adapt to diverse environments for their survival. Problem-solving and decision-making are functions of our nervous systems, including the brain, so intelligence is closely related to the nervous system What is Intelligence? Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. Specific applications of AI include expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition and machine vision. Artificial Intelligence is sometimes referred to as Machine Intelligence What is Artificial Intelligence?

  4. AI is software running on computers AI is an evolution of computer software, a tool for us to be more productive and enhance our own intelligence AI is not real intelligence it is essentially prediction software created by intelligent humans What AI Is And What it is Not

  5. Computer Scientists have been trying to make computers interact in human-like ways for many years A long time ago, in 1943, a computer scientist named Alan Turing created a test of intelligence for a computer. The test was that a human being should be unable to distinguish the computer from another human being by using the replies to questions put to both. This is called the Turing Test Again, a long time back, in 1956 another computer scientist, John McCarthy, coined the term Artificial Intelligence After a long pause in AI development, in 1990, we had learned a bit more about how our brains work and computer scientists started experimenting with Artificial Neural Networks (which try and simulate on a computer, the way parts of our brain works) Since the advent of Artificial Neural Networks, many useful products and applications have been created using AI How Did AI Start?

  6. What is an Artificial Neural Network? An Artificial Neural Network is a program that allows computers to learn from data (training), kind of like us

  7. Like our brain, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) can be taught to respond to inputs of different kinds Unlike writing a computer program to solve a problem, an ANN is taught to solve it. The process of teaching in this context is called Training the ANN ANNs are trained using a lot of data. If you want your ANN to recognize an image of a dog, you will need to train it with thousands of pictures of different dogs Generally, training ANNs requires supervision by humans to make sure it knows when its wrong What is an Artificial Neural Network?

  8. In Internet browsers Chat GPT Gemini On your phone Siri or Hey Google Language translation Processing photos In Some cars Self driving cars Self parking cars While Shopping Online Making suggestions of things you may be interested in Helping find the best deal on airfares In Spam Filters Recognizing unwanted email and moving them to a Spam folder Recognizing unwanted phone calls and alerting you In Finance Trying to accurately predict stock prices In Weather Prediction What s the temperature going to be tomorrow? AI is All Around Us

  9. As technology continues to advance, AI will only get more powerful Remember that AI is only as good as the data and information it is trained on. Bad data quality can result is bad AI and good data quality can result in good AI. A lot of research is going on in figuring out how AI systems can remain un-biased in their behavior and be trusted to provide good results Natural disaster predictions like when to expect earthquakes, when are forest fires most likely, helping doctors diagnose more accurately are all areas where AI research is ongoing. Research is also ongoing in trying to use AI to communicate with animals. Imagine knowing what your pet said to you! As AI continues to advance, our responsibility is to ensure that all of society benefit from it and no harm comes from it Watch out for Deepfakes created by AI https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/21/science/a rtificial-intelligence-fake-people-faces.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iYU9h7FEw0 Where is AI Headed?

  10. Ethics and Society Use AI to regulate AI and combat Deepfakes Help formulate laws and policies to make sure AI is not misused Information Technology and Cybersecurity Data Engineer make sure AI training data is good Natural Language Processing Engineer help AI understand language AI Researcher create and tune AI models Robotics Engineer help robots do more Data Scientist find and analyze data patterns for business advantage Use AI to detect anomalies and improve security Business, Management, Finance Manage a team of AI engineers Manage AI projects Use and improve AI for business intelligence Use and improve AI for pricing and cost analysis Use and improve AI in Human Resource management Use AI to predict financial events (stocks, economy) Climate, Weather, Disaster Management Use and improve AI to address climate problems like global warming Use and improve AI for weather prediction and disaster relief What Work Will You Do With AI?
