  1. CAPA Dance 2 units ATAR HSC: Practical exam (40%), Written exam (20%), Major Project (40%) Dance has been an important part of every known culture. It provides a means of expression and an extension of work and lifestyle patterns. The study of dance as an artform in Stage 6, covers interrelated components: Performance, Composition and Appreciation. Students study dance technique, movement and elements of dance in composition, development of dance and analysis across different styles/choreographers. Performance Preliminary: 40% Composition Preliminary: 20% Appreciation Preliminary: 20% Major Project Preliminary: 20% Core Additional (allocated by teacher) HSC: 40% HSC: 20% HSC: 20% HSC: 20% HSC Major Project: (Performance, or Composition, or Appreciation, or Dance & Technology) You do not need to have studied Dance in Stage 5 to undertake this course.

  2. CAPA Music 1 2 units ATAR HSC: Practical exam (70%), Written exam (30%) Music has a significant place in world culture & the recorded history of all civilisations. Music plays an important role in the cultural and spiritual lives of people. The study of music as an artform in Stage 6, uses the concepts of music as a basis for interrelated components: Performance, Composition, Musicology and Aural. Students undertake practical, research and analysis tasks through a range of topics such as: An Instrument and its Repertoire, Music for Small Ensembles, Rock Music, Music for Radio, Film, TV and Multimedia. Performance Composition Musicology Aural Preliminary: 25% Preliminary: 25% Preliminary: 25% Preliminary: 25% HSC: 10% HSC: 10% HSC: 10% HSC: 25% HSC Plus 3 Electives (Performance, or Composition, or Musicology) one for each topic: 15% each You do not need to have studied Music in Stage 5 to undertake this course.

CAPA Visual Arts 2 units ATAR HSC: Body of Work (50%), Written exam (50%) Visual Arts as a subject provides for various interpretations of the visual arts that are both contemporary and relevant. Visual Arts involves students in artmaking, art criticism and history. They study Practice, Conceptual Framework and the Frames as they research art and develop their own artworks, culminating in a body of work in the Year 12 course. Students learn to make, resolve and refine their artworks in a range of media. Students learn to research and write about artworks. Preliminary Course HSC Course Artmaking Art criticism, Art history Preliminary: 50% Development of Body of Work HSC: 50% Art criticism, Art history HSC: 50% Preliminary: 50% You do not need to have studied Visual Arts in Stage 5 to undertake this course.

  4. CAPA Photography, Video & Digital Imaging 2 units Non-ATAR HSC: There is no external examination This course offers students the opportunity to explore contemporary artistic practices that make use of photography, video and digital imaging. These fields are highly relevant to contemporary ways of interpreting the world. Through study of Practice, and The Frames, modules may be selected in any of the fields of: Wet Photography, Video, Digital Imaging. Modules include: Introduction to the Field, Developing a Point of View, Traditions, Conventions, Styles and Genres, Manipulated Forms, The Arranged Image, Temporal Accounts. There is also an Individual or Collaborative Project and a Work, Health and Safety unit. Preliminary and HSC Courses Artmaking Critical & Historical Studies 70% 30% The course structure allows for modules to be selected in a way that acknowledges and builds on students knowledge, understanding and skills, providing for further, in-depth study in one or more of these fields.
