Assessment of social inclusion of children with disabilities Development of successful policies in the area of social inclusion of children with disabilities requires quality information to assess needs and priorities, monitoring of the implementation process and evaluation of results. In this presentation we will focus on situation analysis 1. step in strategic planning

  3. Assessment of social inclusion of children with disabilities Detailed situation analysis is esential prerequisite of any strategic planing. Prior to SA mutual understanding of concept of inclusion and disability among policy-makers has to be established. Capacity building among policy-makers for successful strategy planning is therefore crucial. It should take place prior to SA.

  4. Assessment of social inclusion of children with disabilities It is useful to nominate advisory body that will participate on strategic planning. It is very important to include representatives of all stakeholders (policy-makers, universities, teacher associations, community services and NGOs focused on support of CHwD, specialists in education of CHwD, parental initiatives, young people with disabilities). Members of advisory body should participate also on SA design and capacty building as well.

  5. Goals of situation analysis according to UNICEF Guidelines for Disability Situation Analyses Increase knowledge and awareness about the situation and rights of children, in regards to their ability to receive a quality education. Analyze the extent to which they are enjoying that right. Identify existing bottlenecks and barriers that get in the way of receiving a quality education. Identify existing policy and programmatic responses to address those barriers. Identify what children themselves (and their parents) see as their most pressing needs. Identify the key duty bearers
