  3. Connection to KSD Goal Goal 4: Ensure a Culture of Accountability Kent School District will establish a comprehensive culture of accountability that ensures the successful implementation of the district's vision.

  4. Purpose: Student Data for Guiding Instruction Benchmark/Formative Assessment designed to: Assess student learning in relation to grade level standards Provide data on individual and group performance on discrete learning targets.

  5. Formative Assessment Leads to Instruction Spring 2010: KSD teachers developed end-of-year math assessments in grades 3-8 Every elementary and middle school participated with approximately 6,000 students assessed Summer 2010: KSD teachers created math trimester assessments that align to the state standards for first grade- geometry September 2010: KSD teachers created reading trimester assessments that align to reading standards for grades 3-10. 80+ teachers field testing these assessments December 2010: Math assessments are being administered to all students in grades 1-geometry February and May 2011: Additional reading and math benchmark assessments will be administered

Connection to KSD Goal Goal 1: Increase Student Achievement Each and every KSD student will meet high standards and achieve at high academic levels in preparation for success in college, career, and civic life. Goal 3: Provide Quality and Innovative Learning Environments Kent School District will provide equitable access to quality instruction through innovative learning environments that stimulate through, promote skill development, and accelerate learning for each and every student. Goal 7: Demonstrate Leadership for Success Kent School District will demonstrate proactive, supportive, accountable, reflective, and distributive leadership practices.

Addressing Common Student Needs (7 Steps) Step 4 Plan and prepare to deliver the lesson(s) in the classroom Step 1 Identify and clarify a student need to work on together Step 2 Formulate an objective and identify student work to be analyzed Step 3 Identify and adopt a promising instructional approach Step 5 Deliver the lesson(s) in the classroom Step 6 Debrief instruction and analyze student work to evaluate whether and how instruction met student needs Step 7 Reassess: repeat cycle or move on to another area of need If necessary, identify and/or prepare to try another instructional approach.
