Asset Recovery in Latin America: Using Extincion de Dominio as a Complementary Tool
Latin American countries combat illicit drug trafficking through asset recovery measures, such as Extincion de Dominio. Efforts include legislative reforms and adherence to international conventions. Recovery of illicit financial flows is a priority, with a focus on non-conviction-based confiscation. The UNODC Model Law on Non-Conviction-Based Forfeiture supports regional collaboration and rule of law principles in combating organized crime. Shared challenges between the EU/CELAC regions highlight the importance of effective strategies in the fight against drug trafficking.
