January Rules Education Meeting UNCW ATHLETICS
National Letter of Intent Signing Dates Soccer February 3, 2016 to August 1, 2016 All Other Sports (Regular Period) April 13, 2016 to August 1, 2016 Also, please make sure if your team is doing any volunteer activities to fill out the promotional activity form on ARMS.
Tryouts Complete the Walk-On/Try-Out Form on ARMS Must have a pre-participation physical examination completed within 12 months of the date of tryout. The physical exam must clear for the PSA to fully participate in athletics and must be performed by a licensed physician. Official results of a blood test for sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease (Per NCAA Mandate beginning August 1, 2010. You should plan to have your physical at least 1 week in advance of your tryout. Proof of valid health insurance that covers athletic injuries (Copy of insurance card/front and back). If a PSA does not have all of the information listed above prior to the tryout, they will not be allowed to participate.
Complimentary Admissions During an official visit/ unofficial visit, a PSA gets a maximum of 3 tickets for an event within a 30 mile radius of the main campus A student athlete gets 4 tickets regardless if they are playing or not. Must be on a pass list; Can t be in the press box, specials eating boxes ; or bench area Can get up to two additional tickets if they re part of a nontraditional family Impermissible Activities Student-athletes and PSAs may not sell or receive payments of any kind in exchange for complimentary admissions. Those designated to receive complimentary admission may not resell or receive payment of any kind for the receipt of their complimentary admission.
Hypothetical #1 During the fall semester, a men's basketball prospective student- athletes (PSAs) visits a school for an official visit. On that day, the school is having scrimmage against an SEC school. During the scrimmage the PSA sits on the bench with the team to enjoy the action. Permissible or Impermissible? Impermissible Reasoning: Complimentary admissions tickets may provide seating only in the general seating area of the facility used for conducting the event. Providing seating during the conduct of the event (including intermission) for the prospective student-athlete or those persons accompanying the prospective student-athlete in the facility's press box, special seating box(es) or bench area is specifically prohibited.
Hypothetical #2 The newly hired assistant softball coach provides comp admissions tickets to a prospective student-athlete for the upcoming postseason conference tournament. Permissible or impermissible? Impermissible Reasoning: A member institution may not provide complimentary admissions to a prospective student-athlete for a postseason conference tournament. The prospective student-athlete may purchase tickets only in the same manner as any other member of the general public. Must purchase tickets in the same manner as the general public, It is permissible for a student host to use the entertainment allowance to purchase conference tournament, NCAA championship or other postseason contest tickets for a prospect on an official visit to the institution's campus, provided the tickets are purchased in the same manner as any other member of the general public.
Hypothetical #3 Above Tha Rim is a basketball student-athlete at UTEP. Above s team will be participating in its conference tournament next week, and he would like to provide tickets to a few of his family members. How many complimentary admissions tickets may Above provide? A. 2 B. 4 C. 6 D. None The answer is C. NCAA Bylaw 16.2.1.1.1 states that an institution may provide each student-athlete who participates in or is a member of a team participating in a postseason event (e.g., conference championship, NCAA championship, National Invitation Tournament, bowl game) with six complimentary admissions to all intercollegiate athletics events at the site at which the student (or team) participates.
Finally.
