  2. Who is ATPCO? Airline Tariff Publishing Company originated as the Tariff Department of the Air Transport Association (ATA) and emerged as an independent company, Airline Tariff Publishers, on 1 January 1965 In 1975 ATP renamed to Airline Tariff Publishing Company ATPCO is owned by 21 airlines from North America, Europe, and Asia and is headquartered at Washington Dulles International Airport

  3. Who is ATPCO, Continued? ATPCO Mission Lead the airline industry in defining standards and implementing industry solutions Collect and distribute airline fare-related data, reliably and efficiently Provide products and services that reduce distribution costs and protect or increase airline revenue

  4. ATPCO Business Model Over 400 airlines provide fare and fare-related data to ATPCO, which in turn is distributed to subscribers including all major pricing and ticketing systems

Industry Baggage Processing Background General Rules General Rules are filed by carriers to reflect the contract of carriage between the airline and the passenger Contains Baggage Allowance and Charge information ATPCO acts as the government filing agent on behalf of airlines Fares and rules are currently filed with 8 governments ATPCO manages tariffs for more than 400 airlines

Automated Baggage Solution Terminology Baggage Portion of Travel Baggage Portion of Travel The travel on an itinerary from where a passenger gives an airline their bag to where it is picked up by the passenger (not including customs/border control inspection) London connecting in Paris to Rome, the baggage portion of travel is London to Rome

Automated Baggage Solution Terminology, Continued Most Significant Carrier Most Significant Carrier The airline whose rules apply for a baggage portion of travel as determined by IATA Resolution 302 For travel which involves crossing IATA Areas, the airline providing transportation on the first area crossing For travel wholly within an IATA Area, but across sub-area, the airline providing transportation on the first sub-area crossing For travel wholly within an IATA Sub-area, the airline providing transportation on the first international border crossing For wholly domestic travel, the first carrier (not defined by IATA but agreed by the industry)

For travel to/from/within the US and/or CA Select the first marketing carrier on the ticket For international itineraries, check whether the first marketing carrier chooses to use the rules of the first Most Significant Carrier on the ticket Use the services and provisions for the selected carrier for all baggage portions of travel on the journey For all other travel Select the Most Significant Carrier for each baggage portion of travel Use the services and provisions for the selected carrier for each baggage portion of travel
