Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Autumn Term One Year 1 Class Teacher Mrs P Woodhouse Thank you for your continued support Religious Education Our RE topic this half term- God s Great Plan God s Great Plan Be aware of the beauty of God s world. Explore and respond to the wonders of creation. The children will learn about the beauty of God s world and explore and respond to the wonders of creation e.g. the seasons. They will also hear about the story of Creation from Genesis and talk about its meaning. They will be reflecting on the knowledge that God made us because he loves us and develop their understanding that we show God we love him by looking after the world and each other. They will learn that we can spoil God s creation and that we have a responsibility to look after it, as well as hearing an appropriate part of the story of Noah and the Flood and its message of salvation and hope. How to help at home: Encourage our child to observe the wonders of God s creation, (e.g the seasons) and think of how they can help to look after God s world.   2. Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Autumn Term One English Writing Focus Text (Fiction): Little Red Riding Hood- A Retelling. In this unit, children will: listen to a retelling of a traditional tale; matching speech bubbles to characters; sequence pictures to retell the story; reading speech bubbles; identify sentences and punctuation (full stop, question mark, exclamation mark); retell the story to make a zigzag book. Spelling: review letter sounds/names and alphabet; revision of diagraphs and segmenting skills; Year I common exception words; words ending with double consonants ( ff, ll, ss, ck): vowel diagraphs ar , or , ow and ou . Read Write Inc. Phonics: Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 sounds How to help at home: Read with your child every night and sign reading record book. Encourage your child to complete their homework each week, which will link with the grammar focus in English lessons. Maths In Maths, this half term, we will start with a unit of work on Number: Place Value within 10 . We will be counting and representing objects to 10, reading and writing numbers forwards and backwards within 10, one more and one less, counting one to one correspondence and comparing and ordering groups/numbers using language and symbols such as equal, more, greater, less, fewer, (<, > and =), representing ordinal numbers an using a number line. We will do arithmetic each week, using the White Rose Maths Flashback 4 as a teaching tool to discuss methods and model how to approach the questions. The children will learn to count in 2s and learn their 2 times tables. We will then move on to our next unit of work, Addition & subtraction within 10 . How to help at home: Please encourage your child to practice writing their 2 times table facts and reciting them. Encourage your child to read numbers in their environment (e.g. door numbers, bus numbers). Suggested games- I spy a number that begins with the letter/sound f .   3. Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Autumn Term One Science Geography Our Geography topic for this half term is, Our Local Area . This unit focuses on our immediate locality. What is it like where we live? The children will develop locational knowledge based on the view from the school and local walks. They will build place vocabulary to define where they live, which is deepened through fieldwork experiences and using maps. Our Science topic for this half term is, Who Am I ? . In this topic, children will identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body. Say which part of the body is associated with each sense. Observe closely, using simple equipment. Gather and record data to help in answering questions. My Body My Senses. How to help at home: Use Google Earth and topographical maps at home to explore our local area. Can your child identify green spaces (parks) and special landmarks? How to help at home: Encourage your child to observe closely with their five senses, name their body parts and identify which part of their body is associated with each sense. PE Music Real PE: Real Gym This half term, our Music theme is Hey You! In this unit we will focus on a style of music from the 1980s Old-School Hip Hop genre. We will listen and appraise a variety of Hip Hop songs, explore how pulse, rhythm and pitch work together and singing and accompanying the songs with musical instruments. This half term we will be doing gymnastics. In this unit, the children will learn, develop and apply shapes and travel on the floor and apparatus through focused skill development, thematic warm-ups and games. How to help at home: Listen to 80 Hip Hop music with your child. Discuss the origins of Hip Hop music in the 1980s and how its popularity spread across the world.   4. Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Autumn Term One Art Books to Share at Home Our Art and Design focus this term is Spirals . In this unit of work we be introducing the sketchbooks and children will be using drawing, collage and mark-making to explore spirals. In this pathway children are enabled to build an understanding about the way they can make marks on a drawing surface. They will explore ways they hold a drawing tool and move their bodies, will affect the drawings they make. Children will begin to explore mark-making and experiment with how they can use the marks they make in their drawings. How to help at home: Read with your child every night and sign their reading record book. Encourage your child to complete a book review or a sequencing activity each week. How to help at home: Encourage your child to mark make and explore drawing different shapes and objects. Computing In Computing this half term, our focus will be on Basic Computer Skills (IT). PHSE/RSE This half term our PSHE topic is Religious Understanding: Created and Love by God- Let the Children Come . In this unit of work, children will learn that we are created by God out of love and for love. Develop an understanding of valuing themselves and personal relationships. Who they are matter and what they do matter. In this unit, children will learn to develop basic computing skills: logging in , logging off and using the keyboard. They will learn about passwords, why we have them and the importance of keeping them private.. How to help at home:. Remind your child that who they are matter and what they do matter. Encourage them to talk about different ways they can give thanks.. How to help at home: Talk to your child about staying safe online and ensure they have appropriate supervision.
