BANTING POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS FACULTY INFORMATION SESSION JUNE 5TH, 2024

SGS SUPPORTS Dr. Danine Farquharson will be working with SGS as an Academic Lead for 2024-2025 on all Tri-council awards to provide academic support for Banting, Vanier, CGS-M and CGS-D awards. Provide guidance to applicants and supervisors when preparing applications. Chair committees and provide feedback to successful applicants. Tammy Power-Taylor, SGS Scholarship Officer, will continue to provide administrative support for Tri-Council awards, including eligibility checks and preparing applications for committee review. SGS and VPR support University Support - For Banting applications successful in the national competition, the SGS will contribute $10,000, waiting for confirmation from VPR but normally contribute $10,000. THE AWARD - $140,000 + $20,000 Last year, 20 applications received, 7 applications put forward, and 4 awarded The top postdoctoral fellowship offered by the tri-council. Meant to: attract and retain top-tier talent, both nationally and internationally develop their leadership potential position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow Unlike other PDFs, one main criteria one the synergy between the applicant, supervisor, and institution mutual benefit of all parties Award details $70,000/yr stipend for 2 years from the tri-council Once in a lifetime, can t be transferred somewhere else Without exception, starts between April 1 and Oct 1, 2025 SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES www.mun.ca/sgs/
PROCESS AND TIMELINE June 11th (1:00 pm-2:00 pm): Information session for Applicants (Webex) June 18th, 2024: Deadline for potential applicants to contact SGS to notify if submitting a Banting application. July 19th, 2024: Deadline for submission of complete Banting application packages. Mid-August: The internal review committee completes the internal review of applications and submits recommendations to the SGS. Mid to late August: Notification of successful and unsuccessful applicants and their proposed supervisors. August 28th: Successful applicants submit the Endorsement Approval Form. The form can be completed before the July submission deadline, but it is only required for successful applicants. September 13, 2024: Institutional support letter provided to the successful applicant(s). September 17, 2024 (20:00 EDT): Application submission deadline; applicants are responsible for submitting their applications online. School of Graduate Studies www.mun.ca/sgs/
NEXT STEPS Confirm any Banting applications for 2024-2025 that would involve Indigenous communities any potential French language applications. Departmental support must be confirmed by the internal deadline date. Applicant information session scheduled for next Tuesday. June 11th, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
