MAN UP BIBLE SERIES Living for Eternity Lesson Four
The Real World One of the greatest memories I have is a Promise Keepers Meeting in Boulder, Colorado as 60,000 men sang the hymn; Holy, Holy, Holy in unison. It was as if I was in heaven and for a moment I had a glimpse of what it will be like someday in heaven. I felt there was no way to please God anymore than to praise him. Yet in scripture we see that there is so much more that God wants from us. He desires that we would pant after him as a deer pants for water. Desiring to be the best in God s kingdom is so different from what we instinctively think. That is what this lesson is about : Being a servant of all. Words of praise are not enough they must be followed up by acts of kindness and love to all around us. Not a fake, have to, but a real desire to be a servant. Lets see what Mark 10 has to say:
The Real Word Mark 10:42- 45 New International Version (NIV) 42Jesus called them together and said, You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.43Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,44and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Real Talk What is a Servant s Heart? Have you ever served someone without expecting anything in return? What difference did your attitude make? Name some Christian hero s that have Servant s Hearts:
Real Steps Why should we become Servants? 1. Serving Says I love others. (John 13: 34 35) They will know we are Christians by our Love. 2. Serving says I Love God. (Rom. 12:1) God did so much for us. I will do this for him. 3. Serving Meets the needs of God s Kingdom. ( 2 Cor. 9:12) If you sit on the sideline the whole Church suffers. 4. Serving brings Fulfillment. (Eph. 2:10) You have a unique service to bring to the Church. Use it ! 5. Serving Glorifies God. (Matt. 5:16) You are never more like God than when you are serving others.
Time to Close We in The Salvation Army say the S s on our lapel stand for SAVED TO SERVE. The sad reality is that we are often far removed from that standard. We shy away from really getting to involved in doing the ministry. It is easier to look the other way or claim that is for the professionals to handle. Look, I challenge you today to take a real honest look at your life and where you are in regards to this idea of being a servant of all. If we want to be the greatest in God s kingdom then we are called to serve the most. This is the exact opposite of what we do. Position and power will not win the world for God. Love and Kindness are the keys to His kingdom and they come at the cost of letting go of our agenda and taking up the Spirit of Christ, the True Servant. Time to MAN UP!
