Learning Outcomes By the end of this session, you will be able to: Identify best practices for teaching online that have been utilized in a specific/given online environment Determine two ways that your existing course site could be modified to include two (more) best practices for online teaching
Background Knowledge Probe 1. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being totally uncomfortable, 10 being mastery), how technically comfortable are you with using your school s LMS? 2. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being totally disengaged, 10 being ever-present), how engaged are you with your LMS course site? 3. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being totally disengaged, 10 being ever-present), how engaged do you think your students are with your LMS course site?
Exploration Activity Part 1 Explore two sites on KIRO, at courses.cmcc.ca: Best Practices for Teaching Online 1 Best Practices for Teaching Online 2 As you peruse these sites, consider what good (and poor) practices you see for TEACHING online (Ask me if you don t know what Lorem Ipsum is)
Exploration Activity Part 2 Two groups: Group 1 will list what poor TEACHING practices they saw for teaching online Group 2 will list what good/best TEACHING practices they saw for teaching online Each group will share their list with the class
