We should speak out against the evil of our day, but we should never turn the mission field into the enemy (Romans 14:1) The ability to keep Jesus the center is a sign of maturity as a Christian (1 Corinthians 3:1-4)
Be in the world But not of it
Who are our people? 14I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. John 17:14 (NLT) 13Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13 (NLT)
4 things we can do 1. Don t judge others 2. Determine Biblical values 3. Measure candidates by their actions 4. Listen to the Holy Spirit and vote Biblical values
Dont judge Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.2 2For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. 3 And why worry about a speck in your friend s eye when you have a log in your own?4How can you think of saying to your friend, Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye, when you can t see past the log in your own eye?5Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend s eye. Matthew 7:1-5 (NLT)
What is bias? Bias: When I misjudge your actions as a reflection of your character Example: If you walk in late, it must be because you are lazy But my tardiness has a reason
How to determine Biblical values Look at what the whole Bible has to say Let the word of God interpret the word of God Look at God s character
Example: Unborn life You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother s womb. Psalm 139:13 I knew you before I formed you in your mother s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 The Bible doesn t specifically mention abortion; it doesn t specifically mention a woman s right to choose so what do we do?
Measure actions, not words 28 28 But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, Son, go out and work in the vineyard today. 29 changed his mind and went anyway.30 the other son, You go, and he said, Yes, sir, I will. But he didn t go. 31 replied, The first. Matthew 21: 28-31 (NLT) 29The son answered, No, I won t go, but later he 30Then the father told 31 Which of the two obeyed his father? They
Listen to the Holy Spirit and vote Biblical values Listen Listen 13 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. John 16:13 (NLT) Vote Biblical values Vote Biblical values 17 17Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:17 (NLT)
Lets stand united! 19 19He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. 20 wine and said, This cup is the new covenant between God and his people an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.21 table, sitting among us as a friend, is the man who will betray me. Luke 22:19-21 (NLT) 20After supper he took another cup of 21 But here at this
