Biogas plants come in different types, with fixed dome biogas plants being a popular choice. Dr. R. R. Mistry, an Assistant Professor at Deogiri College in Aurangabad, presents an insightful overview of the fixed dome type biogas plant, its main parts, and operation. Learn about the inlet tank, stirrer, digester tank, gas outlet, and discharge tank in this informative presentation.

  1. Topic Biogs plant Presented by Dr. R. R. Mistry Asst. Professor Department of Physics Deogiri College, Aurangabad

  2. Biogas plant-fixed dome type: Biogas plants are built in several sizes. The biogas plants are classified into following main types. (i) Continuous typeor batch type. (ii) Drum typeor Dome type.

  3. In the fixed dome type biogas plant is having following main parts. 1) The inlet tank:-Receives the feed biomass and water(liquid waste) 2) The stirrer:-Stirring the mixture to form a slurry. 3) Digester tank:-The slurry is fed into the digester via inlet pipe. The stirrer mixes the slurry in the digester. The biogas generated by an aerobic digestion of the biomass in the digester is collected in the upper half of the digester tank. The upper dome is fixed type hence this type of biogas plant is called dome type biogas plant.

  4. 4) Gas outlet:-the biogas is delivered via the gas outlet pipe. 5) Discharge tank:- After conversion to biogas, the residual spent slurry discharge tank by opening damper provided on thedischargewindow. In the simple fixed dome type biogas plant there is no provision for expansion of gas in the dome. Hence such plant can be used for small and economical size biogas plant. The fixed dome type biogas plant has been adopted on the large scale in China. Hence it is some time called Chinese design. is collected in

  5. Modified Fixed Dome Type Biogas Plant: The modified fixed dome type biogas plant has an additional displacement and water seal gas tank. The digester, inlet tank displacement tank are built with bricks and cement concrete. The modified fixed dome type design is shown in fig.

  6. 1) Intel tank 2) Fixed dome digester 3) Motor gear drive for stirrer 4) Stirrer 5) Displacement tank for slurry 6) Water seal tank for biogas.

  7. The gas is generated in the digester with fixed dome. The pressure of gas in the fixed dome increases and the level of slurry in the digester accommodate the gas pressure in the fixed dome. The slurry gets displaced to the displacement tank. The gas from the upperdome of digester goes into the water seal tank and then to the outlet. The modified fixed dome may be constructing in medium and large size biogas plant. go down to
