Consultation We consulted with Carers, Providers and stakeholders at events and through an online questionnaire: Carers Week 2023 Carers Rights Day 2023 BeHeard online questionnaire Carers Consultation event Providers and stakeholders at Carers Partnership meeting Carers Week 2024 Carers feedback event Prevention First Citizens Panel Birmingham City Council Staff PAGE 2

  3. Vision Over 75% of respondents agreed with the vision but were some concerns. Vision was changed to reflect comments/concerns Taking account of all consultation feedback the vision was changed to read: Before the consultation the vision read: Carers are recognised and supported in a Carer Friendly City, where Carers are listened to, involved, appreciated and valued. Birmingham is a Carer Friendly City that recognises, supports and values all our Carers. PAGE 3

We listened Consultation during Carers Week and Carers Rights Day with Carers led to the development of the 8 Carers Commitments in the strategy. 85% of respondents to BeHeard consultation agreed with the Carer Commitments Commitments were changed to be more relevant to Carers following initial consultation and an additional commitment was developed I want to have choice and can access support when I need it.   5. Our Updated Commitment to Carers I want to be able to take short breaks and have time for relaxation. I want to be recognised and respected as a Carer. I want my voice to be heard. I want to be involved in delivering care and support. I want support during childhood and education. I want support at work and my employer to be Carer Friendly. I want to be safe and healthy. I want to be able to financially plan for today and tomorrow. I want to have choice and can access support when I need it. These commitments provide the aims and objectives for the strategy. PAGE 5

  6. Consultation findings: Other feedback: People need to understand what being a Carer means. Improved communication between health and local authorities. Carers to be recognised and involved in a health setting. Learning courses are costly for Carers. Carers don t receive any information when the cared for is discharged from hospital and need training on lifting and manual handling. PAGE 6

  7. Consultation findings: At strategic meetings Carers should be acknowledged as they would have an empathetic approach (percentage). Carers should be members of the strategic group Carers mental health needs to be considered before crisis point During COVID Carers were looked after and acknowledged we need this as part of emergency plan for future. All Unpaid Carers, self-identified, are registered with GP, highlighting benefits Carers should be celebrated in Birmingham highlighting all additional work Carers undertake in addition to caring role. Aware of different types of caring based on individual's needs. Carers are people. PAGE 7

Consultation findings: Carers should be one of the Lord Mayors charities Carers Assessments for parents needs to be made as part of the Children s Assessment questions need to be asked as part of the assessment support not scare and non-judgemental Promote State of Caring Survey completion annually Carers UK Scenarios developed to explain and highlight the impact and definition of unpaid Carers above general support to families etc. PAGE 8

  9. What we did Updated vision. Refreshed and updated Carers Commitments. Included feedback in strategy. Developed action plan and included feedback items as actions to be addressed. Provided a final opportunity to Carers, partners and key stakeholders to comment on the strategy. PAGE 9
