Communion of the Bond-Servants Jesus our Hope Philippians 2:7-11; Luke 2:29-35
I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Genesis 12:3 NRSV
He says, It is not enough for you to be My Servant raising up the tribes of Jacob and restoring the protected ones of Israel. I will also make you a light for the nations, to be My salvation to the ends of the earth. Isaiah 49:6 HCSB
This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised, to one abhorred by people, to a servant of rulers: Kings will see and stand up, and princes will bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel and He has chosen you. Isaiah 49:7 HCSB
Pay attention to Me, My people, and listen to Me, My nation; for instruction will come from Me, and My justice for a light to the nations. I will bring it about quickly. My righteousness is near, My salvation appears, and My arms will bring justice to the nations. The coastlands will put their hope in Me, and they will look to My strength. Isaiah 51:4 5 HCSB
Look up to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and its inhabitants will die like gnats. But My salvation will last forever, and My righteousness will never be shattered. Isaiah 51:6 HCSB
Be joyful, rejoice together, you ruins of Jerusalem! For the Lord has comforted His people; He has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord has displayed His holy arm in the sight of all the nations; all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God. Isaiah 52:9 10 HCSB
but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:7 8 ESV
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, Philippians 2:9 10 ESV
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:11 ESV
One can only be a servant of Hope, if one is a servant of Christ.
The call of the community of the saved, to point the hopeless to the Hope of the world, Jesus Christ.
Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, Luke 2:29 30 NRSV
which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel. Luke 2:31 32 NRSV
Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed and a sword will pierce your own soul too. Luke 2:34 35 NRSV
What is the sign that Jesus represents? What is it that will be opposed by men and reveal our inner beings?
But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. Luke 22:26 27 NRSV
Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them this is the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 HCSB
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. Matthew 7:13 ESV
But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. Luke 6:27 28 ESV
