Step 1: Make a change to the board (place light bulb(s) or indicate that some square(s) do(es) not contain a lightbulb Step 2: Indicate Justification (rule) The record of your proof : Board states Dead end Inferences Still correct Feedback on whether your inference was correct Incorrect solution
Code Lots of existing code! Java Github Working, but can use lots of improvements and additions Some small, some big Some front-end, some back-end Add puzzles Lots of options here, but you ll have to get a grasp on the existing code and organization
Argument Diagrams I don t (1) hate cheerleading just because (2) it s about as safe as porcupine-juggling. I also hate it because (3) it s dumb. (4) The Velcroed-on smiles. (5) The bizarre arm movements stolen from the Navy signalmen s handbook. (6) The same cheers done by every troupe in every state. 4 5 6 2 3 1 - Letter to the Editor
Argument Diagrams II Argument diagrams can also show intermediate conclusions: (1) The past does not exist, and (2) neither does the future. Hence, (3) only the present exists. However, (4) during the present there can be no lapse of time, since (5) the present is always instantaneous. Therefore, (6) time does not exist. 1 + 2 5 3 + 4 6 -David Hume
Trump directed White House and various other Committees and individuals to defy subpoenas for documents and testimony The subpoenaed documents and testimonies are necessary for the investigation into the abuse of power claims With the quid pro quo Trump put his personal political interests before national interests Trump tried to pressure Ukrainian officials into a quid pro quo + + Trump abused his power to the level of a high crime Trump obstructed justice to the level of a high crime President who commits high crime should be removed from office Trump committed a high crime + Trump should be removed from office
Impeachment should be rare or else it becomes political weapon [Starr} The Government Accountability Office determined it was a crime Standards for impeachment should be clear Standards for impeachment should be high There are really terrible things a president can do besides treason and bribery [Dershowitz] High Crimes only means things very much like treason and bribery Trump did not commit treason or bribery What Trump did is not a crime + If it is not a crime, it is not a High crime + What Trump did does not rise to level of removal from office
Argument Diagram Project Interface (online?) to create argument diagrams Edit: add, delete, move nodes Save and load Text or numbers (if numbers, need legend) Dependent or independent Other features: Objections: indicate objections (and reasons behind them) to premises and to inferences Grounds: indicate the basis/source/ground of ultimate premises (common knowledge, personal observation, authority, etc.) Evaluation: indicate perceived strength of premises and inferences No existing code
Example Cottage cheese will help you to be slender, youthful, and more beautiful. Enjoy it often. No it doesn t 0.3 C.C makes you youthful C.c. helps you become slender C.C. makes you beautiful It tastes awful 1.0 0.9 -0.1 You should enjoy Cottage cheese 0.3*1.0+0.9*(-0.1)= 0.3-0.09=0.21

Wumpus World Project Wumpus World Generator (online?) Make sure any generated world is solvable Set number of pits Set difficulty (how to measure that?) Virtual environment that allows user to test their algorithm/code Specific-purpose Wumpus-World-Algorithm environment (for the non-programmers) Virtual environment that interacts with user code User code will be written in Python uses standard input and output

Monty Hall problem 1 2 3 You are a contestant in the Monty Hall game show and have to pick one of 3 doors, behind one of which is the big prize. You pick door 1. Monty Hall, the game show host, then opens door 2, and reveals that the price is not behind door 2. He then offers you to switch to door 3. Should you switch?
Answer: It depends The answer depends on various factors: Was the prior chance of the prize behind the doors same for all doors, i.e. 1/3 for all three? Does Monty know where the prize is, or did he just randomly open one of the other doors that just happened to not contain the prize? Does Monty always open a door? How does Monty decide which door to open? Etc. See Wikipedia Page on Monty Hall for variants
Monty Hall Project Would like online graphical interface to play Monty Hall Different Monty s: Evil, angelic, ignorant, etc. one-shot Monty Hall or iterated Monty Hall. If iterated: Same settings every time? Give Monty intelligence to outwit the user? Collect data for Cognitive Psychology purposes No existing code
