BRESO prospective certification BRESO prospective certification (within 5 years of completion of training) completion of training) (within 5 years of Overall certification is estimated to take 2 years with a minimum of 18 months practical training : A minimum of 6 months basic training in a breast unit practicing intermediate level care (tier 1 training centre*), exposing trainees to wide local excision (WLE), sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), axillary clearance and mastectomy, with good MDT working (tier 1 training centres, basic training). The candidate will have to demonstrate their practical skills by means of a certified logbook. An additional minimum of 1 year of high-quality training in a specialist breast center (tier 2 training centre*) where advanced level skills will be attained such as oncoplastics, reconstruction (although not necessarily practical expertise in all countries), research literacy, oncology and genetics. the passing of the UEMS European Board of Surgery Qualification (EBSQ) in Breast Surgery exam or holding an approved higher degree or certificate of competence (including, but not limited to that offered by the European School of Oncology (ESO) or the University of East Anglia MSc.), plus the attendance at certified/approved courses the attendance at a minimum of 1 international breast congress NB/ Tier 1 and 2 training centres should be BRESO approved

Retrospective certification Retrospective certification (for surgeons with more than 5 years experience at consultant/attending (for surgeons with more than 5 years experience at consultant/attending level) level) CRITERIA: 1. Full medical qualification and active licence to practice (in good standing, surgeons under suspension will not be eligible) and have completed surgical training in general surgery or surgical oncology or gynaecology or plastic surgery 2. Worked as a senior/attending/consultant surgeon for at least 5 years in a specialist breast unit treating a minimum of 150 cases per year for at least 2 of these 5 years and personally treating a minimum of 50 cases per year for all of the past 5 years. Practice may be in a public or private hospital or a combination of the two. Practice must be breast focussed for at least 50% of their working hours. 3. Publications related to breast surgery: Minimum of 3 pubmed listed publications over the entire career, AND Documentary evidence of either: 1 completed audit or service evaluation of local unit practice, academic presentation (oral or poster) or pubmed cited publication per year for the past 5 years to demonstrate engagement with service improvement and a good understanding or evidence based practice. 4. Evidence of attending at least 1 breast congress or course per year of which 2 must be international (such as EBCC, St Gallen, San Antonio, Senaturk, etc.), in the past 5 years.

Evidence of weekly attendance at a properly constituted breast MDT (with attendance of a medical and radiation oncologist, pathologist and imaging consultant). With at least 50% attendance 6. Either: passed an examination to certify their expertise in breast surgery (honorary certification is acceptable) OR Provide evidence of advanced level competency in the management of breast cancer, including oncoplastic techniques (BRESO acknowledges that breast examinations are a recent development) 7. Summary logbook for the past 5 years to confirm minimum of 30 ANCs, 100 SLNB, 30 Mx, 100 BCS and 20 oncoplastic cases 8. Payment of fee of 200 Euros Certificate delivered after receipt of all relevant documents and payment of the fee. Validity: 10 years List of BRESO certified surgeons to be published on the BRESO website as soon as reasonable number of senior surgeons already certified. Date of certification and date when recertification is due will be specified.
