Brent Community Action on Dementia The CAD Brent Approach The CAD Brent Approach What How CAD Brent seeks to create a dementia friendly borough which enables improved wellbeing for people living with dementia. We are an alliance of different organisations and individuals committed to this goal. Our approach is to try innovative projects (project list at Annex A) which could then be sustained or scaled up if it is proved that they work. We recognise Brent s rich ethnic and religious diversity and our goal is to improve lives for everyone with dementia, regardless of background. A Dementia Friendly Borough of Brent 2

These meetings will ensure CAD Brent is linked into the overall health, care and wellbeing agenda in Brent. 6 Monthly Meetings with Councillor Krupesh Hirani (Brent Health and Wellbeing Board Chair) and Phil Porter (Brent Council) The CAD Brent Steering Group meet on the final Friday of the month at Brent Civic Centre. The Group is chaired by Danny Maher (CEO, Ashford Place) with secretariat from Naomi Fine. The Steering Group has also done some longer strategy sessions (see Annex B) CAD Brent Steering Group Projects will update at the Steering Group. Promote our work Display posters or leaflets for CAD Brent and/or our partner organisations. Sponsor a Project or Fundraise If you can support a project financially (directly or through fundraising) or in kind (e.g. people s time) we would be delighted to hear from you. Become Dementia Friendly Ensure your business or organisation is operating in a Dementia friendly way. This could include Dementia Friends Information Sessions, which cover five key messages that we want everyone to know about dementia, and help people to think what they could do to help. Become part of CAD Brent Join with us as a partner organisation e.g. becoming involved in one or more of our projects. Project is funded by Health Education England across North West Support the development of Kilburn as a Dementia Friendly ward. London (HEE NWL) and is a collaboration with Kilburn Primary Care Co-op Limited, CAD, Brent Dementia Peer Support Project, CNWL, How will we know it has Succeeded? Brent Council, Age UK Brent and Ashford place. Will be evaluated by Imperial College London in September. Grand finale event at Queens Park Fayre. Outputs will include: Project Interdependencies Raising awareness and improving knowledge of dementia locally via a series of events within communities especially amongst BAME - A Whole Street of Support communities, faith groups and healthcare staff. - Peer Support project A leaflet and poster produced to be displayed at GP practices and public venues. If evaluation psoitive, will look to roll out to other main GP federations Workshops delivered to GPs within Kilburn to further improve confidence in Brent. in recognising and managing dementia. Project Resources Seed funding provided for Caf to be established. Dawn Butler (MP for Brent Central) has agreed to be patron of the project although now subject to re-election.
