Collaborating with Tamara Kaattari on literacy and basic skills initiatives, LiUNA focuses on pre-apprenticeship applications, math boosters, and expanding programs to support members. The partnership with Fanshawe College and efforts to engage new locales demonstrate the growth and impact of the program. Through check-ins, skill development, and support services, LiUNA empowers individuals for successful future pathways in the workforce.

In the beginning there was no connection But we knew apprenticeship was a relationship we wanted to build
Collaboration on a pre-apprenticeship application Skills Check-Ins involved Educational history Confirming eligibility Credential recognition support Reading/writing Math Soft skills Digital literacy Previous learning supports About 75 Check-Ins conducted The first round of pre- apprentices
Math Booster 2 nights/wk x 4 wks Strong encouragement from LiUNA Excellent uptake Customized and delivered by Fanshawe College London LBS Resulting programming
And the relationship grew Number of pre-apprentices grew to 120 Fanshawe revised the Math Booster Expansion was on the horizon
Spreading the word LiUNA Case Study Interest from Toronto and Windsor Development of relationships between LBS and two more LiUNA Locals
More than pre- apprenticeship Proposed LiUNA pilot to work with current LiUNA members Precarious employment Understanding Collective Agreements Health and Safety Soft skills for advancement
The ripple effect Skills Check-Ins for pre-apprentices at LiUNA Will be working with two more non- college TDAs through the Pre- Apprenticeship program next fiscal Support LiUNA by helping pre-apprentices take steps required to complete entrance requirements
