What is an ePortfolio? It is a set of digital building blocks depicting work in progress or completed Collection Development Information Services Leadership/Management Information Systems Research Professionalism
Whydo we create one? It helps us to accomplish the following: Documentprogress Compare achievements to objectives Meet benchmarks Showcase our activities and achievements Personalize our coursework
Who will be involved with my e-Portfolio? Who will complete one? Students Job seekers Professionals Presenters Who will view one? Other students Instructors and administrators Advisors Employers Professional networks
Where do we make one? Where will it need to be for your career purposes? Learning Management Systems (LMS) Online link to websites or blogs Professional hosting services, e.g. LinkedIn
How do we make one? Follow the format of your e-Portfolio host. You may submit content or provide links to: Documents and Web Presence Presentation and Analytic Tools Audio-visual Communications Websites PowerPoints Video links Drawings Google docs Digital images Forms Databases YouTube, etc. PDFs Spreadsheets Audio files
When are e-Portfolios prepared? During a course of study to illustrate the progress of a student s work In preparation for graduation as final assessments and reflection At a training program to document coursework proficiency For future employers to highlight specializations and achievements To document professional development through continuing education, academic coursework, or professional membership activities
Developing an e-Portfolio in Canvas Open your Canvas account , then click on Settings in the Global Navigation links in the upper part of the screen. Click the e-Portfolio link in the far left of your screen. In the Create an e Portfolio area, create a name for your e-portfolio. Decide whether to make it public, private or require a link for access. (Note that you may change this later.)
Click Make e-Portfolio. Now, view your e-Portfolio. Notice that there are options for using the Set Up Wizard or to Proceed Directly to your e-Portfolio. Take a moment to decide what sections and pages you wish to have present. Aim for a consistency on basics to help your readers. Ask your advisors and professors for required elements.

Design for the Reader These are your starting choices You may Set your ePortfolio to Public or Private (accessible through a link YOU copy from Canvas) You may choose from submitted assignments to upload information, or browse and upload a file from your computer. You may add sections as shown here.
The Pages of Your Incredible Work Located in the Section Pages on the right side To Add a Page We could simply use Edit This Page if we did not want a separate page. I decided to have a dedicated page for my information, not to just add text in the main boxes. First, I went to my e-Portfolio Home page. Next, I clicked on Organize/Manage Pages.
Canvas Samples Content Notes or Directions Reflections Reflections on Journals I found this information to be stimulating to my interests in these different fields of our studies. As a student with diverse interests, the knowledge that so much peer-reviewed, solid information was available for those of us in my chosen fields, was encouraging.
Click Here, Add There, and a Little Edit The column will look like this after I have clicked here: Click on Add Another Page . I added the one shown below.
Upload files? Im confused Look for the Edit This Page The pencil icon on Edit This Page reminds you that editing is possible. Click to open the editing features. You may add many types of content. We will explore these on the next slide.
These Options Will Help Choose from these options: You may need to watch for formatting issues with text and adjust it as needed. Note that you may cancel, preview or save page from Add Content
Continue to Edit You may allow comments on your page and decide whether they should be public or not. Even if you have a text box or file uploaded to the page, you may add others by choosing to Add Content, again. Image/File Upload gives the options to select, upload, or cancel files. Remember, my files are ones you have already loaded to Canvas. Finally, click Select/Upload File.
Experiment! There are many choices! You may add text, files from your MyFiles folders, files that you upload, images, media clips, SmartArt, etc. You can easily edit a page by choosing Edit on the Sectional Pages column. You may also delete a page, section, or entire e- Portfolio just by choosing the Trash Can icon. You may rearrange the pages in a Section. You may rearrange the Sections in the e-Portfolio. When finished, click Done Editing . Help is available in the top right corner of the large screen or in the How Do I ? link in the Sectional Page column. You may be amazed at what you have accomplished.
Final Reflections Your advisor and professors will share the requirements for your work. Canvas may be one of a range of choices for the ePortfolios. Some other options are shown on the next slide. Remember, the How Do I ? on the Pages menu and the Help link on the site upper right are linked to Canvas help for both students and instructors. You may be asked to include sectional and/or final reflection pieces. I chose to use both reflections from classes, that spoke of my accomplishments, in the sections and a Final Thoughts section and page to hold the overall reflections of my degree process and any associated artifacts.
