NSW Department of Education's Skills Brokers have been appointed to administer funding under the Commonwealth Job Trainer program and coordinate training through the Skilling for Recovery initiative. NSW Department of Education Skills Brokers Skills Brokers have been appointed by Training Services NSW to administer funding under the Commonwealth Job Trainer and coordinate training through Skilling for Recovery program to help the state recover from recent disasters Two are employed in the Illawarra South East NSW region. Skills Brokers are available to help employers by: Using networks to locate new staff who are trained and ready to fill roles with specific skill requirements Finding ways to upskill existing staff, or newly employed staff, who need training Upskill or organise training for redeployed existing staff who have been stood down, or are at risk of being stood-down or are facing retrenchment either into a new role in your business or into a role at another business 2

NSW Department of Education Smart and Skilled NSW Skills List Smart and Skilled is the NSW Government program that covers funded training and is managed by Training Services NSW. Registered Training organisations are contracted to TSNSW to deliver Full Qualifications, Part Qualifications, and training for Apprenticeships, Traineeships and SBATS. Under Smart and Skilled there is a list of the priority qualifications required to support the diverse needs of industry and the NSW economy Developed by the NSW Government through extensive labour market analysis and consultation with industry and the community The NSW Skills List is available to support small business, as the qualifications on the list support setting up and/or sustaining a small business 4
NSW Department of Education Skilling for Recovery (NSW JobTrainer) NSW JobTrainer is a $318m program funded by the NSW Government and Australian Government to support NSW citizens through this difficult employment and economic environment The NSW JobTrainer program is supporting vocational training and skills development across NSW and is administered through Training Services NSW The program offers fee free and low fee training options to boost skills with full and part qualification course options, as well as personalised support to assist people navigating the skills and training opportunities available in NSW Our priority is to support the State s economic recovery by providing the skills businesses need to sustain our economic development 5
NSW Department of Education Skilling for Recovery Skill sets These are fee free short courses to help people acquire new skill sets across a range of vocational education and training part qualifications a skill set or part qualification are a group of Units of Competency (UoC) Courses are on nationally accredited subjects and are offered through TAFE NSW, community colleges and private Registered Training Organisations which are contracted to the State Government When a student completes a part qualification, they will obtain a Statement of Attainment (SOA) for a nationally accredited skill set, which they can then use as the starting point to complete a full qualification at a later stage. (Getting a Statement of Attainment means that students have completed those units of competence and do not need to do them again. They would get a Credit for those units when they enrol in other related courses where those units are offered). 6
NSW Department of Education The benefits of skill sets The potential benefits of skill sets include: The potential benefits of skill sets include: They can offer an introduction and insight into studying or working in specific industries to offer suitable pathways and career options They can address a knowledge/skills gap, development, and/or industry accreditation Skills and training is designed to meet immediate industry needs Currency where required by legislation (RSA/RCG) 7
NSW Department of Education Skilling for Recovery eligibility People are eligible to receive funded training under NSW Job Trainer/SfR when at least one applies: at least one of the eligibility criteria Veteran or Veteran s recognised spouse Aged 16 24 In receipt of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit (or a dependant of someone who is). Unemployed and not in receipt of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit At risk of unemployment At risk of unemployment - must fit into one of the below points and a support letter from the employer with a detail outline as to why they will they lose their jobs if they don t complete skills set. 1. Employee that has been stood down or an employee who previously would have been on Job Keeper and is at risk of becoming unemployed and requires upskilling or reskilling for a new role and employment elsewhere. 2. Employee starting a job and has been employed in the role for 6 months or less and employed on the condition of receiving training to build capacity and capability for the job role. 3. Existing employee who is low skilled, with or without relevant skills or previous qualification up to Certificate III, that requires training to upskill to secure ongoing employment or future employment. 8
