About This Module The main aim of the module is to provide students with the knowledge relating to the development/implementation and management of business information systems (IS), which is necessary for a career in any contemporary organisation. This module does not require a technical/programming background and will help students develop relevant transferable skills around the use and value of IS.
Module Outline Current societal trends and technology Managing IS failure Strategic IS planning Different IS development methodologies IS project management Contemporary topics related to IS development (e.g., cybersecurity)
Teaching and Learning Weekly lectures on different thematic areas Additional/supplementary material on each topic will be uploaded on Learn My expectation from you: attend the lectures, don t hesitate to ask questions, and cover the recommended readings for each lecture. Do all this and the exam will be a walk in the park

Wider skills and knowledge development Knowledge and Understanding: - appraise the different theoretical approaches to systems development; - explain system analysis and design methods for systems development projects; - explain how information systems are developed and implemented to ensure system success; - critically evaluate the impact of information technology and information systems development on business processes; - analyse issues of IS strategy formulation and implementation; - explain the procedures for software package selection and evaluation; - explain procedures for information security, control and compliance within the business organisation. Subject-Specific Skills: - analyse the information requirements of a specific organisation; - critically evaluate alternative methods to satisfy the information requirements of a specific organisation.. Transferable Skills: - evaluate competing arguments; - learn and work independently.
