  5. What is the Difference between the Intramural Meet and the National Meet? Intramural Meet for UCLA Law Students Only Open to 2L, 3L, LLM and S.JD students Competition on October 14 from 12:15-6:00 National Meet 72 schools in 12 regions of the US Students compete in a regional competition on Feb. 24, 2017 Regional winners advance to national finals on March 31, 2017 Team selected by coaches

Structure of Transactional Meets Each team is provided a simulated problem Teams create a draft agreement Intramural Meet it will be specific sections of an asset purchase agreement National Meet TBD Teams Mark-up another Team s draft agreement Teams Negotiate their agreements on the date of the competition Students receive skills training and practice

Intramural Meet Team Assignment Option 1: Create Your Own Team Application allows you to request one or two other members on your team No guarantee Option 2: Assigned to a Team You do not need to have a team to participate, can be assigned to a team Depending on number of applicants teams maybe combined or team members added to a team Teams of 2, 3 or 4 members

  12. National Meet Team Selection If interested in being considered note on Intramural Application Participation in Intramural Meet taken into account but not required Separate application available after Intramural Meet

  13. Intramural Competition Requirements Each team must have at least one member attend the training sessions on September 21 and 23. Recommend all team members attend

  14. Scoring Criteria for Draft Agreements Both the Draft and the Mark Up will be scored on a 1-5 scale based on: The team s draft is well-presented in its appearance and free of typographical errors; The team s draft accurately reflects the objectives of the client as expressed in the client interview and Q&A; and The Team s draft represents a thoughtful approach to the issues that must be resolved in the upcoming negotiation.

Negotiation Scoring Criteria Professional Persona The team would inspire confidence from a client; The team garnered respect from the other side; The team was articulate; and The team was professional. Understanding The team understood its client s objectives; The team understood the objectives of the other party; The team understood the issues in play; and The team correctly prioritized the objectives and issues.

  16. Negotiation Scoring Criteria Effectiveness The team achieved (or was making progress toward achieving) a mutually satisfactory outcome that met the objectives of its client; The team was creative in developing solutions to problems; The team made good use of their time; and The team was effective.

  19. Structure of Bankruptcy Meet Simulated transaction in which a debtor in possession must propose and confirm a plan of reorganization. Teams draft and negotiate a term sheet for the plan of reorganization Students negotiate the term sheet on the date of the meet Students receive coaching and training by a bankruptcy professional

  23. Pircher, Nichols & Meeks Joint Venture Challenge

  24. What is the PNM Joint Venture Competition? Students will perform the role of advisors for a large private equity fund sponsor considering investments in two deals and will respond to a series of questions about the deals. No prior experience in joint venture structuring, real estate finance or similar activities necessary. Teams provided with resources to assist in evaluating the problem and volunteer coaches from several law firms will be available to answer questions and help teams stay on track. Competition submission due generally due end of February.

  25. PNM Joint Venture Team Selection Process Students will work together in teams of 2-3 students, with at least one law student and one graduate student from either the business school or environmental design. Students enter individually and team members will be assigned randomly. Applications will be available on Berkley Law website this Fall Applications generally due end of January.
